2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cerealy aroma with slightly piney, slightly fruity hops in the background. Carbonation is medium and the body is medium to light. The taste is medium bitter, with the grainy malts making the biggest impression.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle. Pours a crystal clear dark golden body with a large creamy white head of considerable longevity. Aroma is mellow raisin tones, caramel, straw, grains and bready malts with hints of herbs. Taste is watery grains, caramel, almonds and hints of bread. Light, near-watery body, medium to soft carbonation. Horribly boring, but still quite quaffable.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nice dark golden color with aromas of grapefruity hops and a nice bready malt. Flavor is perfectly balanced. Not too hoppy, not too bitter, and with a nice malty sweetness that is not overpowering. Overall a good beer, easily quaffable!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught, small stable creamy head, quite clear light orange colour with yellow taints, aroma of bread and grains, flavour of of citrus and tropical fruits with a light bready backbone, pleasant and not too strong citrusy herbal bitterness. Suprisingly hoppy and really good.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a hazy burnt orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some light stringy lacing trickling down along the sides of the glass.
The smell had some light sweet English malts that came across not as soapy as I would have expected and had a light grainy and nutty caramel aromatic tone to it.
The taste was pretty much the same with a slight stronger bitter and earthy hop content to it.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat subdued but contained a decent sharpness to it as well.
Overall, I say this was a pretty decent English pale ale that I would have again.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Smithwick’s Pale Ale has a very thick, fluffy, off-white head, a cloudy, sediment-rich, bubbly, golden appearance, with lots of rather heavy lacing left behind. The aroma is of semi-sweet, bready malt and subdued citrus. Taste is of those elements, with hops that come across as a sort of cellar mold, something common with English/Irish ales, I’ve noticed. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Smithwick’s Pale Ale finishes fairly crisp and highly drinkable. RJT

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Can. Golden and looking like a macro, this actually turned out to be a sturdy, even-keeled beer, if a bit "regular." There’s a mild aspect of, well ... everything ... Well balanced an quite drinkable. Pleasantly surprised. (#5587, 7/25/2014)

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Can at Fado. Poured in a Smithwick glass. Very slightly hazy medium-dark amber pour. Heavy carbonation. Not much aroma. Reasonably full golden ale with some amber fruit, toasted grains, and a modest hop bite. Does not feel like a typical Pale Ale at ale. Has some nice elements but feels too much like a beer crafted by committee.
