Consistently good palate and flavour on draught and in bottle. Refreshing hop character up front with satisfying bitter citrus finish. Very capable session beer.

In our travels in Ireland we did not always drink Guinness. The Galway Hooker was tasted where we could get it and then we found this pale ale form Swithwick’s. The bartender Larry at the Porter House in Westport recommeded it to me. He said that only 260 pubs had it in Ireland while they were market testing. The ale poured a nice amber color with citrus aroma from the start. The bitterness of the hops was well balanced with the malts. It had a medium body with lively carbonation. The white head laced and lasted through out.

Bottled, 0.5l. Clear dark golden color with creamy white head and lively visible carbonation. Aroma of grassy hops, fruits and biscuity malt. Smooth and rich malty flavor, pretty well balanced and finished with pleasant and long hoppy aftertaste. Medium body, slick texture and soft carbonation in palate. Better than draught Smitty’s ale...

500ml bottle. Pours darker than I would have imagined. Sweet, fruity taste. Not gassy in the slightest. Medium body and thick white head. Prefer this in draught though. Some of the flavour seems to be lost in this bottled version.

Draught, small stable creamy head, quite clear light orange colour with yellow taints, aroma of bread and grains, flavour of of citrus and tropical fruits with a light bready backbone, pleasant and not too strong citrusy herbal bitterness. Suprisingly hoppy and really good.

Nice dark golden color with aromas of grapefruity hops and a nice bready malt. Flavor is perfectly balanced. Not too hoppy, not too bitter, and with a nice malty sweetness that is not overpowering. Overall a good beer, easily quaffable!

At McGann's in Doolin. Plain looking but some lacing. Kathy says you pronounce it Smithicks or you get a blank stare. Nose is great citrus and pine. Piney malty palate. Pretty decent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can from Bert’s Pours a slightly hazy medium gold color with a decent off white head that persists for quite a while. Aromas of bready caramel and toffee with hints of light floral hops. The flavor is light sweet sugar with hints of caramel and toffee and bits of light fruit and earthy hop. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Not a bad pale ale, probably not something I would pick up often, but something I might buy for my relatives.
