Gold Medal Winner - 2012 Great American Beer Festival, Denver, CO - Coffee Beer
A coffee-beer, rather than a beer with coffee. A robust porter aged on fresh locally roasted, fair trade ground coffee. Enhanced flavors of chocolate, roasted malt, and of course coffee are present. "Like a chocolate covered espresso bean."

Tap at the Library Alehouse. Pours a deep brown with a medium bubbly tan head that left spotty lacing. Aroma of fresh ground coffee, toasted and roasted malt along with milk chocolate. Flavor of chocolate covered espresso beans. The mix of coffee meets chocolate is excellent. One of the top coffee beers I have had.

Bottle from Marcus. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate espresso. Strong. Med + body. Flavor is strong espresso with a deal of chocolate. Earthy chocolate. Or something like that. Really powerful flavors. Of the good kind. This beer could be for breakfast. Fooh on Founder’s Oatmeal Breakfast concept. This would work way better on porridge.

On tap at craftburger in Carlsbad, CA. Opaque, brown-black with a light tan head and very good lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee, roasted malt, cocoa and a little tobacco. Taste of espresso, chocolate, and roasted malt. Quite tasty! The coffee, chocolate and roastiness play well together, weaving in and out, with each taking turns rising to prominence. Medium/full body and medium carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft - Dark roast coffee and some chocolate. Jet brown with a light brown head. Roast coffee and toast with bitterness. Great coffee nose doesn’t translate well to taste.

On tap at the Library Alehouse in Santa Monica. Almost black in appearance with a tan colored tan. Rich coffee aroma with notes of earth, chocolate, cocoa and light roasted malt. Similar flavor, mildly bitter and lightly sweet. Average body with a smooth feel and a lingering coffee finish. Nice!

500ml bottle pours a black color with a bit of head. Strong coffee flavor that overpowers. Not enough malt to balance the coffee.

12 oz at Library Ale House. Pours dark, dark brown with a solid tan head. Huge coffee aroma and flavor all over this. The nuances of said coffee are well captured. Malts provide suggestions of brown sugar and cacao while the finish is very earthy. Medium carbonation. This is a seriously good coffee beer. No subtlety here.
