3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 chriso (7254) - London, Greater London, - FEB 16, 2011On tap at Calhoun’s, Knoxville (riverside location) as Calhouns Tuckaleechee Porter on 9 July 2006. Deer red/brown colour. In common with some of the other beers, this was served too cold to pick up much aroma. Good sharpish flavour with some bitter chocolate. Not the fullest or smoothest Porter but pretty decent.

Bottle. Slightly sweet chocolate malt and roasty nutty malt. Smells more like a good brown ale than a porter. Deep chestnut with a small beige head. Chocolate, caramel, and a little charred malt flavor. Medium body, soft carbonation. Not really to style, but still very enjoyable.

Dark brown pour, light head. Aroma...you can tell it’s a porter. Nice roasted malts. Taste is more roasted malt than caramel.

A-heavy dark roasted malt smell.
T-rich roasted malt taste with enough sweetness to just almost take the edge off. Slightly bitter aftertaste with a heavy toasted Cheerios taste. Slight bitter aftertaste. Would love to have a huge chocolate brownie with this!

Pours dark brown, no head, Appropriate roasty aromas. Initially taste is roast, and bitter, with sweetening kicking in on aftertaste. Mold character that grows, not impossible to get through, but not endearing either. So-so porter, thin mouthfeel. Thanks jason B.

12 oz bottle at Copper Cellar, Knoxville. Pours brown with an off-white head and a lot of carbonation. Aroma is of dark chocolate, brown sugar and hints of dark fruit. Medium-light, crisp body. Taste is similar to aroma. Finish is sweet, pleasantly chocolaty. Light, easy drinking, nothing special porter.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Appearance is brown with amber highlights and a thin, whitish head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is sweet chocolates and malted milk balls. Taste is a creamy coffee with hints at chocolate and nuts. Mouthfeel is thin and flat and finish is long with a nutty aftertaste. Overall its a bit average.
