COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Native to northern Europe, Baltic porters evolved from British porters once exported to the Russian hinterland. Unlike their British cousins, Baltic porters are often brewed as lagers, the tradition we’ve followed. This beer is big, bold & smooth, with malty flavors reminiscent of coffee, dark fruit & raisins. 2009 Vintage. Enjoyed from a 22oz bomber in a stemless wine glass. the beer pours a nice black hue, with a low tan head. The nose shows really appetizing characters of chocolate milk, dark chocolate, and a slight roast note; along with a background note of Munich and perhaps a medium lovibond crystal malt. Any hop character has long fallen out of solution. The palate shows much of what was advertised in the aroma, with a touch more emphasis on roasted character. Milk chocolate, mellow roasted flavors, a nice residual caramel/toasted malt sweetness, and a finish that is absolutely surprising in its dryness. Again, hop bitterness seems nonexistent, indicating that the alcohol may be adding a touch of bitterness, along with the roasted malt. Overall, the beer shows a level of complexity and refinement that is exemplary. A stellar example of the style.

Nice and easy drinking - smooth as silk. Complex malt/roast/smooth/dry/bitter. Heaven in a glass.

Pours a near black with a tan head. Aroma is smokey with a touch of burning wood. Taste is dark coffee with sweet cream. Balanced a bit more to the sweet side. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a dark brown color with tan colored head. Coffee, roasted malts, and some dark fruit on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with plenty of roast and some nice sweet dark fruit tones.

Bottle from Drinkers Paradise NW5. Very dark brown/black, thin off-white foam. Smooth roasty chocolatey flavours with some coffee, and a nice bitterness cutting through. Slightly warming without tasting in any way hot, holds its abv nicely. Really nice.

Bottle from World Beer Market. Pours near black, low light tan head, some lacing. Rich, dark fruit aroma, raisins and plum, dark cherry, a booze note like port or sherry, light coffee. Strong malt flavour with dominant raisin, chocolate sweetness, drops off a bit mid-palate but lingering alcohol warmth. Fairly smooth, medium body, quite flat carbonation. Very nice sipper.

Bottiglia. L’aroma in bocca riporta sentori cereali, liquirizia, arrostito, frutta secca, etilico e alcol presente.

This beer has been a while in my cellar, so if tought it will lose alcohol aroma and some body. Maybe it needed more time? The appearance is quite dissapointing. Color is great - beer is almost opaque black, only on the bottom of the glass there are some brown reflexes. Head retention is problematic - nice, thick foam disapeared in few moments. In aroma there are tones of sweet chocolate and cherries. Alcohol is present, but it smells like cherry tincture. Everything is completed with notes of roasty, coffee-like aroma with hints of soy sauce. In mouth beer gives as everything that nose announced: chocolate, cherry, alcohol warming, coffee, soy sauce. Roast malt character is different - in taste it gives delicate ashy feeling. Mouthfeel is great! Long finish with a lot of sugarry sweetness changing over time to alcoholic bitterness. Really good baltic porter! Maybe not that balanced as many Polish examples. :) It would be great to taste fresh and cellared versions alongside.

Een geur naar verbrande koffiebonen. Kleur heel donker. De smaak is redelijk sterk maar valt heel goed mee voor een porter
