Native to northern Europe, Baltic porters evolved from British porters once exported to the Russian hinterland. Unlike their British cousins, Baltic porters are often brewed as lagers, the tradition we’ve followed. This beer is big, bold & smooth, with malty flavors reminiscent of coffee, dark fruit & raisins. Aroma is coffee, pipe tobacco, raisins, and brown bread. Flavor starts malty, with coffee, chocolate, and dark fruit. Roast coffee bitterness and alcohol in a very dry finish. They promised big and bold, and they delivered.

Sample at SBWF 2015. Black with a tan head. Aroma and taste of licorice, roasted malt, some dark chocolate and hints of dried fruit. The mouthfeel was thick and the aftertaste long. A nice one.

Fantastic mouthfeel to a dark opaque brown porter served in a tulip glass at the Bulls Head. Coffee aroma and flavor with a lingering anise and chocolate finish.

I love it that when you pour a beer like this you have the feeling something great is going to happen. It sliiiiides rather than pours, it settles as if it is sitting in a comfy lounge, and it know it belongs. Stuffynose really. Look at it, a great dense black body and delightful crema. Each sip leaves a lovely lacing down the glass. I should be criticised for copyright infringement but yes, coffee, dark fruit and raisins. Maybe fig too. Dense bold mouthfeel and flavour with a spiritous endnote. Not trying to be Putin anyone down at all but I’m glad to see the Russians have given the world something of value.

Bottle conditioned in January, 2015. This was poured into an English pint glass. The appearance was a pure dark jet black pour. A slight one and a half finger white to off white foamy head dissipated within less than a minute. Lacing just quickly slides into the beer. The smell starts off with sweet rich dark chocolate with a nice leading edge of some dark fruits coming in lightly to keep it sweet. Light bitter and roasty coffee beans show some nice balance to boot in the aroma. The taste follows through in the previously noted aromas. The lager yeast helps a tad little bit of breadiness to make a smooth transition to the aftertaste and give off a sly little bit of semi-sweet sticky little bit of a finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium in body with a good sessionability about it. Carbonation runs really light causing a big stickiness to develop and surround my tongue. Overall, I say this was a really nice Baltic Porter, maybe I just could have had it at the right time too. It really aged nicely!

On tap at Archive. A murky black brew that paints the head brown. Rich taste, a meal in a glass, with flavours ranging from coffee to dried fruit. Well matched with their porter and beef cheeks pie.

Bomber. Pours black with a dissipating brown head and aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, and dark fruits. Taste is strong, with liquorice and dark fruits along with roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee notes into the finish.

With Z, pours a deep dark black pour with no appreciable head. Nose is deep and heavy malt with some vanilla fruit. Taste is thick malt, dark fruit with a hint of Java. Finishes on the same tasting notes with a rather long and dry ending. Quaff Score 7 / 10

Aromat: słodowy, wyraźnie słodki, z nutami karmelu, orzechów włoskich, tostów, nieco suszonych owoców (śliwki, wiśnie), porto, czekolady, kawy. Ogólnie gładki, alkohol dobrze ukryty.

Wygląd: barwa niestety czarna, nieprzejrzysta. Piana beżowa/ jasno brązowa, średnio pęcherzykowa, niewielka i niezbyt trwała. To najsłabszy punkt tego piwa.

Smak: na bogato. Czekolada, leciutka paloność, kawa, owoce suszone. Początkowo słodko, ale ciemne słody jednak zwyciężają, nadając nutę kwaskową. Mocno, ale gładko. Goryczka umiarkowana, idealnie dobrana by zapewnić balans ze słodem. Krągła pełnia, niskie (zbyt) wysycenie i ciemno słodowy (głównie czekoladowy), kwaskowy i alkoholowy , rozgrzewający przełyk finisz.
