Overall: Lighter and crisper than Old Ruffian. I’d have it again in an instant. Nicely priced, and great flavors. Get it. Well crafted. 18 out of 20. Periander (38), Annapolis, Maryland, USA Jul 12, 2008 Pours a hazy copper color. Caramel, grapefruit alcohol aroma. Taste is sweet and syrupy and strongly hopped. Zesty, but lacking in complexity JB175 (1269), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 9, 2008 2006 bottle. Nice reddish-caramel color with a light-med head. Aroma has lots of caramel, sugar, and a faint bit of citrus/pine hops. Flavor is smooth and sweet with a light hop bite to match an aggressively sweet malt. Smooth and tingly mouthfeel. This one is a classic barleywine that seems to have benefited from two years in the bottle. jcwattsrugger (3757), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jun 9, 2008 22oz bottle-pours a retaining light tan head and amber/copper color. Aroma is sweet medium malt-caramel, secondary pine hops. Taste is sweet medium malt-caramel, secondary pine/metallic hops, alcohol. Slick mouth feel which changes to a dry finish. Sipping, occasional. Thanks decaturstevo for sharing. Juelze (651), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA May 18, 2008 Pours a dark coppery color with abundant amounts of yeast floating about. Aroma is light caramel, pine and citrus hops and a bit of earth. Taste is fruitier then most barley-wines with a good amount of citrus in it and less emphasis on the rich caramel/malt aspect. Still, the alcohol is well hidden and it ends up being a quite enjoyable experience.
