Aroma of yellow raisins, sweet malt, and toffee or caramel - excellent for an English barleywine. Appears a hazy amber color, with no head to speak of. Flavor is sweet and vinous in front, a bit chalky or ashy in the middle, and with an English hop bitterness in the finish. Palate is soft and velvety, with medium body, and with the slightest effervescence to cover the alcohol a bit. Overall, a very good barleywine.

Wasn’t totally impressed with last year’s version when I first had it, but after letting a bottle sit for 8 months or so, this one is growing on me. A really rich caramel malt nose on an orangey-brown body. Full-bodied malt with rich caramel and plummy dark fruit round out the thick caramel malt taste profile. A touch of citrus and complementary hops make this a winner, with a little aging.

A barley wine with some flaws. The aroma is the best with the beer. Nice malty aroma with a little citrus from american hops. The taste is light caramel with some citrus. Some harsch alcohol in the finish.

Brilliant clear amber/copper under a generous off-cream head. Big sticky nose of delightful stone fruit and cherry and plums, and dark fruity caramel. Nice sticky flavor that’s balanced with a earthy, leafy sort of hoppy bitterness on the finish. Lots of caramel, plum, apple, raisin, cherry and dark sticky maltiness throughout until the hoppy and leafy finish. Really complex and balanced.

Bomber, 2013. Pour is a clean clear copper with a good ivory colored head. Aroma is caramel, bread, plum, pineapple, orange, spice and pininess from the hops. Taste is bitter up front smoothed out by a sweet malty body. Sweet citrus fruits, caramel and earthy hops come through. Finishes with a smooth hop bitterness. Definitely an American style barley wine but smoother and not as hop aggressive as say a Bigfoot ale. Booze is felt on the way down but well hidden in the taste. Pretty nice stuff.

While many American barleywines seem more like overly sweet Imperial IPAs, this one actually feels like a barley wine with a present yet balanced hoppy backbone.

Big nose of hops and some malt. The pour is a clear brass color, with no sediment. Taste is hoppy up front with some sweet malt to back it up. More on the American style BW, but it is good.

Malty, earthy aroma with nuts, bread, and some wood and alcohol. Rich, malty, bittersweet taste with caramel, apple and raisins. Finish is fruity bitter with a fair amount of alcohol. Another nice effort in their Big Beer series.

650ml, dracks hemma 8/3-14. U: Mycket snygg klar->disig bärnsten med två fingrar smutsvitt/gulnat gräddigt skum som lämnar tät gardin. Mycket snygg. D: Sockervadd, karamell, grapefrukt, litchi, läder och alkohol. S: söt karamell grapefrukt, litchi, aprikos, lite fet ton av gräddkola, läder, trä och pepprig mix av alkohol och hög barrig beska. Lite lakrits i eftersmaken. M: stor kropp, mjuk fyllig kolsyra, oljig klibbig. T: Klassiskt amerikanskt bw i samma still som Old Guardian, great divide och bigfoot. Sött karamelligt grapefrukt läder och massa barr och alkohol. Lite för mycket alkohol .
