halfonit (424), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA Nov 9, 2009 Ok I know there’s a goofy looking old school boxer on the label, but don’t let this one fool you. This is one serious IPA. Has a dark golden color. Aroma is basically of big time hops and canibus. Taste is basically the same with some subtle hints of malts. Has a big time bite in the end. madmitch76 (136), , Essex, England Nov 8, 2009 26th April 2008. Smooth IPA - strong rich hops but not wincingly bitter. Well judged level of hops and very drinkable. ksurkin (356), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Nov 7, 2009 22oz bomber from grape & gourmet. pours a bright, clear, yellow-gold with a half-inch white head and solid lacing. aroma is wonderful with big, fresh, citrus hop notes of white grapefruit and orange, herbal pine needles with a bit of dank bud, and sweet floral notes with a touch of candy sugar and light, caramel malts. flavor is outstanding as well with juicy, fruity hop notes of orange, grapefruit, pineapple, and a bit of tangerine with beautiful spicy, sprucy, pine and sweet florals on the back and just a touch of nutty, toasted, malts providing balance. palate is medium bodied, slightly sticky, and deliciously bitter with a lingering, citrus finish. overall, a great east coast DIPA. Elwood (677), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Nov 6, 2009 Serving: 22 oz. bottle.
Appearance: Nice golden orange color with a frothy white head. Good head retention.
Aroma: Lots of citrus in this one, orange and grapefruit, some earthy herbal notes, and a bit of resin. Quite promising.
Flavor: And fortunately the flavor delivers! Lots of enamel eating hops! Orange, pine resin, a hint of Grand Marnier, and some tropical notes. Sweet, but in balance with all of the hop bitterness. Nicely done.
Palate: Medium carbonation with a rich mouthfeel and a long, bitter finish.
Overall: Don’t drink this one first and think you will be able to taste much after it. A very good DIPA that I certainly would recommend. bp (452), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 5, 2009 Bottle: pours golden amber with a thin white head, aroma of citrus (orange really) and hops, taste is buttery, hoppy, nice bitter finish. Very good DIPA. chriso (4685), London, Greater London, England Nov 3, 2009 22oz bottle from Charles Street Liquors, Boston. Gold colour, thin head. Massive hoppy aroma. Definitely lots of mandarin orange to go with the herbaceous and the resinous. Orange also to the fore on the palate. Coupled with a warming alcohol presence and a fairly sweet mouthfeel, I find distinct echoes of Cointreau or some other orange liquer. There’s quite a strong bitterness to go with the sweetness that lingers into the aftertaste together with a slightly hot alcohol remnant. Undeniably a big beer with not much room for subtlety. Very tasty but just a touch too sweet, verging on syrupy, for me.
GandGKevin (184), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Nov 1, 2009 Pours golden with a big white head. Aromas of tangerine and grapefruit. Flavors are much more subtle of tangerine and grapefruit. Initial sip was bitter but that faded quickly. Overall a very good IPA. dkachur (2319), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Oct 31, 2009 Updated: Nov 1, 200922 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. This beer’s 500th rate! Hooray! Pours a clear golden color with a medium frothy head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma is beautiful, floral and citrus hop notes with a bit of a resiny bite in the end. Taste is citrus hops with a good amount of bitterness, some floral notes and some nutty malty notes. Medium-full bodied. Good beer.
