For our hopping regime we went with Cascade and Nuggets in the boiling addition. Centennials were added every 5 minutes for the last 30 minutes of the boil. We added Crystals into the whirlpool. Dry hopping was done in both the fermentor after primary fermentation and the bright tank. We used a mixture of Chinook, Nuggets, and Sterlings in the fermentors and whole leaf Centennials in the bright tank.

Cloudy golden orange color, yeast chunks present. Very hoppy, a citrus piney hop. Lingering bitter finish.

Pours a cloudy orange with a quickly fading bright white head. aroma is citrusy (grapefruit and orange) and piney. sweet and sticky followed by a strong hop bitterness, not as balanced as it should be. could be more malt assertive. i liked this one though.

Another goody for us hop-heads. Is this unfiltered, bottled conditioned, or both? It poured out viscous thick - all sorts of stuff suspended in it's glowing gold body. Hops are chewy pine and grapefruit up front and linger forever with a softly warm bitterness - Not as sharp as Ruination, but about as strong. The one thing they could do would be to add more malt to backup these intense flavors, but I loved it anyway.

UPDATED: AUG 31, 2004 New 2004: A tremendous improvement over last year's recipe. I believe that this is simply a doubled-up version on the IPA--really the same flavor profile, but obviously more intense. Rich thick body and head and a good amoount of hops. The bitter finish cuts the thickness nicely. Old 2003: Pretty much what you'd expect in a double IPA, but there should be a greater investment in hop flavor than in simple bitterness. Pales in comparison to Rogue and Dreadnaught.

Tastes like bitter grapefruit. If you like astrintent hoppy IPAs, this is your nectar. Finishes even more bitter than the first punch in the palate. Unique in it's over the top hoppiness, though personally I much prefer a 3Floyds Dreadnaught for super hops. As BtownBrewer noted, the 3Floyds is much more balanced - this is quite a bit over hopped for the amount of body.

Holy Citrus Batman! Smells like a grapefruit salad, tastes like a pine forest. Witch hazel isn't this astringent. This stuff had an absolute death grip on my pallate. I couldn't tell you what the finish was like cuz it never ended. I could probably clean engine parts with this, and I won't need mouthwash for another week. The problem here is that nothing was balancing out the hop overload, like in the 3F Dreadnaught (now THAT was good).

cloudy/hazed dark golden orange color with a nice big head of creamy frothy...well..froth...citrus hop aroma with some creaminess to it..and a little soapiness to it too..big hop bite to the flavor which was pretty resiny too..and chalky at times..with big bitterness...grapefruit rind aftertastes..and some more bitterness.

The first thing that surprised about this beer was the thick pour - it looked like hop syrup coming about of the bottle Sharp hoppy nose. A touch of alcohol up front, rich flavor, with a bit of caramel and hops up the yang. Not my favorite, but good.

Copper mahogany color with a thin band of small-bubbled, lightly tan carbonation. Aroma is bursting of hops from the first pour, but shows some sweet caramel undertones. Body is dry, semi-sweet and bitter with lots of toffee and does a good job of masking the alcohol. A good intense IPA with plenty of flavor. Thanks to Casey for getting this for me!

I had 3 IPA's tonite, and this was the bottom of the pile. Not a bad pile though 60 min, Great Divide Maverick and this. Classic appearance similiar to the Maverick. Cut grass and pine aroma and flavor. I think I wish it had a little more malt. Bitter, dry finish. Very descent IPA. Thanks Scott.
