COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For our hopping regime we went with Cascade and Nuggets in the boiling addition. Centennials were added every 5 minutes for the last 30 minutes of the boil. We added Crystals into the whirlpool. Dry hopping was done in both the fermentor after primary fermentation and the bright tank. We used a mixture of Chinook, Nuggets, and Sterlings in the fermentors and whole leaf Centennials in the bright tank.

Hazy orange with a small white head. Big floral aroma, and a big hop taste that lingers on.

Fruity nose, fruity flavors. We aint talkin pebbles!Got some malt in the background also. I think i,m detecting some alcohol? Nice white head, doesnt hang to long but thats OK! Good IPA. Nice bitterness. The clarity is the only drawback to this brew. Not that that matters though.Good beer, good drinkin beer.

Lovely hazy orange/copper colour. Big sweet, floral, hoppy aroma w/ touch of citrus. Full bodied, resiny and sticky. Superbly balanced and complex beer. Nice, big hoppy finish as expected, but also a sweet maltish character w/ citrus notes.

UPDATED: FEB 27, 2004 2003: This version is light bronze; with citrusy notes, lemon, toasted wood and bread. Very hoppy, toasty malts, grapefruity. What in its first incarnation was a unique and stylish beer is now a dime-a-dozen snoozefest.

2002: Hazy orangey-amber; drips with hops in the nose - resiny, like what I imagine it would be like to lick your fingers after picking hops all day. Large-scale hoppiness, but what I like about this is that unlike most Imperial IPAs, this is balanced and stylish. The hops are intense, but not over the top. The malts do not come in with an overhanded earthiness, but rather serve to provide sweetness only (higher pale malt to crystal ratio is definitely how I like my IPAs). Nicely done. (4.0 overall rating for this version)

beautiful stuff. I had this served to me very cold and it still tasted great. as it warms citrus, apples and a caramelly sweetness appear to compliment the knuckle sandwich of hops.

Beatiful deep orange colour with an intense rocky, white head. Juicy, quenching, fruity, piney, resiny hop flavours. Truly a super heady IPA. It leans towards the dry side and clearly showcases the hops. There is little malt flavour to be found in this beer, but that’s OK. Smuttynose definitely pulled it off. A super heady IPA.

UPDATED: MAY 7, 2004 Nice earthy aroma and flavor. A very cloudy IPA, but it has a very nice hop balance. Thanks mittenstein.

UPDATED: MAY 2, 2004 Moving away from the traditional American style IPA, this was quite a surprise.Great aroma, orange hints, full bodied for an IPA and quite a kick,7% I believe 8/5/8/4/16.....Re-rated, this is a new version of the same labeled beer. This beer pours with a thick creamy white head, mousse like, with a fine head of small bubbles. Underlying the dense foam cap, a deep golden orange body glistens with a fizzy haze.Ten minutes have passed and this head still stands almost a half inch thick.I saw Michael Jackson once float a coin atop a foamy head in a Bohemian brewery and I'm tempted to do the same. The aroma eludes citrus fruits, oranges and tangerines, slightly acidic. The mouthfeel is thick, warming, coating, with a malty chewiness. an assertive bitterness starts and lingers through the outer edges of my tongue and the roof of my mouth. as I swallow it fades slowly into a spicy, zesty hop finish that's warming of alcohol and a light malt sweetness.

Pours with a thick creamy head, hazy orange body, intense citrus/pine nose. Dry hopped to the hilt. I think the East coast is beginning to figure out the hops ratios in those big bad West coast brews.
