| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 2, 2006 Another in the line of the Big Bottle series, the Big A IPA continues in Smuttynose’s tradition of big, bold beers. This one pours a medium amber color with a large, off-white head. Mostly diminishing, the head leaves behind fair lacing. Active carbonation in the body. Aroma is well-balanced, with an even blend of malts and hops. Medium strength flowery hops, and average strength sweet malts combine into a well-rounded nose. Alcohol is also present. Despite the well-balanced nose, the initial taste provides no safe-haven from the alcohol in this beer. A first light sweet, it quickly progresses to a medium bitter, spending an eternity on the palate. Oily mouthfeel at the finish. hiphops (280), caldwell, New Jersey, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 24, 2006 22 oz. bottle on 10/21/06. Hazy amber/gold with a medium off white head. Citrus and pine dominate the aroma. Light malty sweetness is rapidly overshadowed by spice, and bitter citrus flavors of lemon rind and grapefruit. Medium body with a aresinous and astringent mouthfeel. This is quite bitter,a nd the finish is long and bitter, leaving it a little unbalnced in that direction. ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark

| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 16, 2006 As most people know, I’m very partial to the IPA’s. This one is no different. Probably my favorite to date. I like my IPA’s to have a citrus finish of which this one definitley has. And it also has the ABV. to get me where I’m going. I would compare this very closely to STONE IPA which is one of my gold standards. I believe this one edges the stone out just a hair because of the higher alcohol and a little bit stronger hoppiness. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 16, 2006 Whole Foods, Alexandria, Va. - 22 oz bomber. Murky orange pour with a creamy white head that leaves sticky lacing. Very fresh sprucey aroma with some fresh citus notes. Flavor has the requisite grapefruity notes, but it is somewhat polished and refined for the east coast. Pick up hints of nectarines, mint and some back end nuittiness. Very thick mouthfeel, creamy. bager (2121), Copenhagen N, Denmark
