mcox90 (618), Wilton, USA Jun 21, 2009 22 oz bottle, 2008 edition. Pours a deep
orange/amber color with a thick creamy white head. Also, a creamy lace is left behind. Never seen lace quite like this. Nose is grapefruit and pine. Thick, chewy palate with low carbonation. Flavor is dominated by hops as you would expect, but there’s also a nice malty presence as well. This one is definetly a winner. glennmastrange (809), hobe sound, Florida, USA May 21, 2009 Bottle. Light to moderate malt notes of roasted and caramel, heavy grapefruit peel for the hops, light soap for the yeast, with date and pepper in the background. Head is average size, creamy, off-white, with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy, dark orange/tan. Flavor starts moderately acidic then finishes moderately acidic and heavily bitter. Palate is medium, oily, and has a lively carbonation. A big, heady DIPA. The hop component in this is an absolute knockout. alexsdad06 (1056), Ohio, USA Apr 4, 2009 22 oz. bottle via a trade with??? This is a standard clear amber color with a medium off white head. Resiny, sweet, citrus, hoppy nose with an adequate amount of caramel malts. I enjoyed this DIPA, but in a different way than I might one from the West Coast. It was not as bold as some, but had a solid balance between the caramel malt and the citrus and resiny hops. The finish had just the right amount of bitterness for this beer. lindsey7638 (18), , Maryland, USA Mar 2, 2009 Unfair rating alert--> I’m not a fan of IPA’s but my boyfriend made me try this so I am going to rate it. Spicy nose of acidic hops. Flavor was all hops and sweetness with a hint of alcohol. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA Jan 25, 2009 A 11oz. sample thanks to TheRealBastard. Pour is a nice copper with thick frothy head. Aromas strong of HOPS, pine resin, and some sweet malt in the back. Flavor is well balanced with citrus, piney hops, and a great smooth finish. This is one of the best drinking DIPA’s out there. WeeHeavySD (2941), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jan 13, 2009 Bomber I believe via trade with phhd. Pours orange with a nice tan head. Nose is sweet and hoppy with some resin and a touch of citrus. Taste is quite grassy with a ton a ton resin. The hops are strong and mouth feeling is overall good. Can’t say how I feel about this overall, its clearly an east coast DIPA, not just because its from the east coast either. Tasty overall, but not quite as bright as I like my DIPAs. Pastor (509), Maine, USA Jan 10, 2009 A 2008 bottle poured into a snifter produced a great two fingers worth of white head that lasts a long time. The body of this ale was cloudy and orange in color.
The aroma was very citrusy and piney in the beginning balanced of with a malt backbone in the end
This brew is not the typical hop bomb it is well balanced nice sweet malts and bitter grapefruit flavor are abundant through out my whole mouth great medium mouthfeel with great carbonation
I have had a lot of this brew always great. I always miss it when it’s gone; I wish they brewed it more than once a year theisti (1640), Leawood, Kansas, USA Dec 4, 2008 22 oz bomber courtesy of mcox90. Pour is a hazy golden orange with a nice one inch off white head. Thick lacing. Aroma of resin pine orange peel citrus hops, sweet sticky maltiness. Big and fresh. Taste is nose exactly, though the alcohol comes through pretty big in the finish. Overall a nice, though strong, DIPA. Thanks for sending this my way Michael.
