Frank (1064), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 18, 2005 Thanks to Heemer77 for sharing. Pale soft orange, slightly hazy. Just a bit of white head. Caramel in hops in the nose--loaded with citrus and lemon. Fruity with a sort of ice tea character. Resiny almost soapy (in not such a bad way) bitterness in the finish. heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Jan 15, 2005 Updated: Feb 22, 2005Thin white head with a very dark orange and copper coloring. The aroam is caramel and oranges. There is also some dark bread. The taste has grapefruit, dirt, tree bark and some nice tobacco. This finishes fairly dry. Slightly thin mouthfeel. Thanks ClarkVV for the trade. jon112981 (327), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA Jan 6, 2005 Beautiful color. Amber hue with just the right amount of white head. Strong hop taste. Smells sweet but tastes stronger. A great IPA. axilla (962), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 5, 2005 Amber colored body with a big bubbley head. Aroma is very flowery, somewhat perfume-like. Very well balanced flavor. Huge hops but not overpowering. Alcohol well-hidden. Smutty can brew some ipa’s! GoldenSpunky (120), Rochester, New York, USA Dec 30, 2004 The IPA pours golden brown with hints of sunkist orange and plenty of hops in the aroma. The hops heighten with the first taste of this smuttynose IPA. The Big A IPA is very different from this style of IPA. Big A is also a more traditional style of IPA than their irginal with a very bittery, hoppy taste that lingers in the after taste. That Smuttynose knows how to make a damn good IPA! pivo (2535), Germany Dec 27, 2004 Hoppy nose, amber color, tall foamy head. Sweet malt base that is really not significant but supports the late arriving dirty hop bitter. Kindy one dimensional and not really balanced. I can appreciate the aggressive hoppy, but overall it just doesn’t all come together for me. YogiBeera (2437), Hamburg, Germany Dec 19, 2004 Vintage 2004: Big rocky "Adrian" shouting head on the amber colored beer. Sweet hoppy, grassy nose. Chalky dry and bitter taste which leads to a long nice aftertaste. BearBrewer (86), New York, east village, New York, USA Dec 16, 2004 On cask at Blind Tiger. Possibly the best IPA Ive ever had. pours a cloudy orange with a HUGE rocky head, imensely complex floral aroma, not the biting bitter hop aroma that some imperial IPAs have, very aaromatic, like perfume. The flavor is also very well balanced, lots of hops but not overly bitter, the alcohol is well hidden in the complexity of the flavor. I truly enjoyed this one.
