Aroma is driven by spice with some hints of citrus. Some coriander?, orange and other spice drive the flavor. The palate and overall balance is good. I again get some orange rind on the finish. I’ll be looking forward to the 2007 release. tjthresh (1765), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 18, 2007 Theisti was cool enough to share this with me. He even served it in red wine glasses. Classy. As for the beer, it poured a slightly hazed golden with a thick white head. There are definatly some spices in this beer, and some may thing that they are over done. I think that are very well blended into both the arom and flavor. Hops and malt both are both pretty crisp. Medium/full body make this a fairly substantial drink. Overall, this a really nice drink. Thanks for sharing Tim. theisti (1654), Leawood, Kansas, USA

Pour is a golden copper with a nice fluffy head. Aroma is malty, citrus and some spiciness. Taste is very nicely balanced between the nice malt base, with citrus, spice and even some nice funkiness layered in. Had this sitting on my back porch on a perfect late spring early summer day. Overall, a Saison I very much enjoyed. iowaherkeye (1851), Bakersfield, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 2, 2007 22oz Bottle Conditioned in 2006 from 46er3498, thanks Tom! Pours a clear dark honey with a fluffy 1 1/2 finger fluffy head. Aroma of old orange rinds, musty grain, light flowers, Belgian yeast and some caramel. Flavor was caramel and flowers up front, some herbal hops bringing moderate bitterness, and very faint alcohol is noticeable. Semidry finish. Not near as funky as some saisons I’ve had. Light to moderate carbonation with a medium body. Not too bad. Probiere (992), Iowa, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 2, 2007 Smells better than it tastes, unfortunately. The aroma is full of interesting things like slight barnyard, fresh-mown hay, wild summer berries, and bitter orange peel. The flavor is somewhat alcoholic and bogged down with muddled sweetness. Sorry to say, b/c I like Smuttynose and they generally do a nice job with their Big beer series, but this was meh. bonbright7 (173), Bellport, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 1, 2007 The Farmhouse Ale poured beautifully into my tall pint glass with a short head that belied its fathoms of taste. The fruit and floral aromas told me more about this ale I as dove in for a taste. The golden red ale tasted differently each time as a hundred different colors came to my mind. A light sense of hops came around to remind me this was an ale and not just a glorious find. It also had a malty background, unlike other saison interpretations I have had.
My hat is off to the Smuttynose Brewing Company for creating such a great ale.
