| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 9, 2006 Orange, with a white head. Aromas are fruit, yeast, and spice. Flavors are spice, yeast, fruit, and malt. Doesn’t seem exactly like a saison, but it good anyway. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 7, 2006 2006 bottle from Tom (oldgrowth) Thanks! Smuttynose is one of my favorite breweries, if not my favorite. Pours out an orange color with a thick white head. Smell is fruity and earthy, full of yeast and malts. Taste is rich and smooth, very easy to drink. Goes down so easily I could almost chug it. This is the best saison I have ever drank, hands down. Smuttynose is almost a reason for this southern boy to move to New Hampshire. Simply awesome. VERY underrated on this site. Thanks so much for this one Tom!! Kevin (1918), Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 5, 2006 Dark, sedate yellow pour with a dingy white head. Smells like sour bologna, but not in a bad way really. Some light lemon notes. A nice watermelon tang. Wet lettuce flavor I don’t like, dusty, toffee, and poppies seed. Dry peppermint flavor with an orange peel flavor that lasts.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 4, 2006 Bomber - Poured a darkish amber with a thin whitish head. Aroma was distinctive of Belgian ales... very yeasty and rich with only a very slight hint of hops. Flavor is also of strong Belgian yeast with a minor amount of sourness. Malty sweetness is in the background, but supports the overall richness of the brew. Palate is rich and creamy. Finish is slightly sour and fairly long lasting. A really great beer and one that I sincerely wish to repeat soon... blueduk (118), Eugene, Oregon, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 3, 2006 Ok, so I was a little congested when I tried this beer, and I’ve pushed the rating up slightly to compensate. Even with limited faculties I can tell this beer has great depth and complexity.
The pour is beautiful. Clear golden straw supports a foamy, creamy off-white head. Floral hop aromatics spiced up with cloves. Some citrus hops as well. Fruits. These are balanced very nicely by maltiness and the obvious and always welcome Belgian ale yeast.
