Cask at GBBF 2009: lemon, spicy, yeasty, chestnuts on fire, wood, some sweetness, rich but not heavy, thirst quenching, very good.

Draft at Ebenezer’s. Pours a yellowy orange with fluffy head. Nose is banana bread, lemon bars and earthy notes. Pretty dry finish, spimilar to Surly Cynic, though more dry and less spicy/clovey. Very nice Saison.

22 oz. bottle from Green’s off Ponce De Leon. Nice foamy head that doesn’t seem to go away! Translucent orange in color. Very nice looking saison, at least to me it is! Very fruity saison. Not so much on the tart/sour aroma, but mainly the fruity and yeast aroma stands out. A little too fruity for me. I am beginning to appreaciate the slightly tart/sour saisons. Plent of yeast in the aroma as well. Not very pungent, but the beer is still rather cold. To me the flavor is filled with the taste of yeast. I get a bit of the fruits, but the yeast stands out the most to me. Alcohol mixes in quite well i.e. it is barely noticeable. Slight spice as well, but nothing that stood above anything else. Light sugary fruit flavors. Slight nuance of flavors. Carbonation is a bit much for me. I am belching up dinner from 3 hours ago! Carbonation is a bit too live for me, and this saison is a bit too sweet as well. Overall, it was a nice saison, but I think the damn carbonation was a little much along with the sweet flavors.

i was kinda excited for this but it didnt live up to what i thought it was gonna be. it was good but not great... when i poured it, there was barely any carbonation and no head. smelled of citrusy fruits with a nice hoppy aroma but the taste wasnt exactly exciting and like the review under me it was very boozy and alcoholy tasting and very syrupy. i would drink again maybe just to make sure it was nothing special but i wouldnt run out of my way for it.

hazy gold with a huge soapy off-white head. aroma is spicy with peach, lemon, sweet corny malts, and grass clippings. palate is lively with carbonation. flavors bring out grass, alcohol, light colored fruits, hay. sweet and boozy. too syrupy. not really refreshing like i imagine a great saison should be. a little around the edges.

Cask@GBBF2009. Hazy orange colour, small white head. Aroma is fruity and flowery notes along with some mildly earthy notes. Mild barnyard as well. Flavour is quite much the same, but lacks some spicyness to be a really good Saison.

Cask@GBBF 2009. Amber color, white head. Slightly tart mango fruity aroma with hints of orange and strawberry. Sweetish, lots of kandisugar, light tartness, mango and apricot. Short fruity-sugary finish. A bit too sweet for being enjoyable.

Bottle from Sam’s. Pours hazy gold. Nose of yeast, mild orange/citrus, and moderate spice. Clove and banana as well. Surprising alcohol presence on nose. Fruity and sweet. A bit of hops. Dry finish, but overall still too sweet. Pretty typical American take on the style.
