Birdiebeagle (778), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 1, 2009 Bottle Pours a cloudy gold with a decent white head. The head lasts okay and seems to lace nicely. Has a nice sweet malt aroma with hints of yeast. Also pick up some mild fruits. Has a good carbination and a nice mouthfeel. Has a nice finish. The flavor is blended nicely. Does not seem as high in ABV as it is. Alcohol is blended nicely. Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Feb 26, 2009 Bomber. Pours a deep golden copper with a nice fluffy off white head and some lace. A roma is a bit stale- earthy , herbal light diminsihing hops, ok slightly stale crackery malts, light pilsa nd carapils- with a wierd solvent almost vodka like alcohol kick. Flavor is a bit dulle, diminshed spiciness and yeastiness dull hops and malt is a bit dull as well- could be a bit old- 2007 bottle I think? Finish has more solvent and fusels,- and more vodka sharp alcohol. Meh. BillKismet (1899), Seattle, Washington, USA Jan 5, 2009 Bronze, briskly carbonated brew with full, Brussels lace head. Spicy, herbal nose, with zesty yeast, and earthy pepper. Easy European hops and fruity, peppered flavors dominate. Light, piquantly peppered bitter-sour note on finish. Earthy, spicy, warming, grassy, and refreshing. LyndaNova (492), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Dec 20, 2008 Cold 22oz bottle: Pours a cloudy medium orange color with some sediment and a small, creamy alabaster head. Fruity moderately sweet aroma. Clear orange golden body, small head. Sweet and floral orange flavor, with malt. Lingering fruity finish. Minimum bitterness. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Nov 29, 2008 Bottle in trade from joepais. (pastor) Thanks man!
Pours a nice clear, bright orange color with a light whitish head. Smell is lightly funky, with yeastiness and citric tones. Taste is yeasty, sweet malt, coriander and other spices, and some citrus. A bit sweet, but otherwise has nice flavor and an average body and mouthfeel. Solid. elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Nov 26, 2008 11/21/08 notes: bomber, part of tasting. Pours a light orange. Aroma is hoppy, with grass. Flavor is a mellow sweet, with fruit and soda cracker. This is a well-balanced brew that hides the alcohol well. GAManiac (1123), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 20, 2008 22oz bomber courtesy of MrRetardedMonkey poured into a tulip.
Pours a crystal clear golden orange with a decent fluffy white head that dissipated very quickly to a ring with limited lacing.
The aroma is a mixture of bready Belgian yeast, roasted caramel malts and spices. Not that I was expecting a lot, but there was virtually no funk at all.
The taste is a little better than the aroma and had the slight funk I was looking for. There is still the dominant breadiness of the Belgian yeast throughout with significant peppery spices and a good bit of light fruits, peaches and apricots especially.
The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with good carbonation.
This is a good saison, though not at the top of my list in the style or of Smuttynose beers I’ve had. Still tasty.
