WeeHeavySD (2941), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Oct 30, 2008 Bomber via trade with phhd. Thanks Ethan. Pours orangey yellow with a tan head. Nose is spiced and decent. Taste is sweet and spiced and slightly citrussy. Interesting psuedo Saison. Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Oct 18, 2008 Bomber. Poured brilliant medium golden with a short cap of pure white head. The aroma was strong and spicy upfront with black pepper and spiked light fruity notes.. almost smelled syrupy with a pinch of honey joining.. warmth brought out some floral presence (chamomile?).. a little too assertive. The flavor had a sticky-sweet core of honey and caramel maltage with peppery and floral spiceage again.. just a little funk in there.. finished strong and warm. Thicker-bodied on the palate with low carbonation.. sweet at times when I wish it was dry.. not really digging the strong saison here. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 30, 2008 22 oz. bottle - pours mostly clear and dark orange; white head to the edges; some tartness with aromas of orange and lemons; freshest tasting of the 3 sampled together; smooth, rich body; kind of reminds me of a pale ale with the farmhouse flavors; no funk or much sourness; most enjoyable to drink of the 3, but maybe more along the lines of an american saison gameface23 (131), Haverhill, Massachusetts, USA Sep 27, 2008 Pretty standard saison made outside of Belgium. Apricot aroma with slight amounts of funk. Nice fruity/spicy taste. BeerEssential (96), Massachusetts, USA Sep 19, 2008 Pours a beautiful cloudy orange with a creamy white heads. Nice lacing also. Aroma of alcohol and apricot. Carbonated with a touch of bitterness. Not much barnyard funk present, contrary to some other reviewers. Fruity spicy and delicious. A nice surprise and will buy again. fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Sep 18, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of fairly rich caramelly malt, typical spicing, fresh dirt, pineapple, lime?, unusual fleshy fruit notes somewhat like avocado, melon rind. Flavor quite sweet and malty with some bittersweet fruit. Dry, earthy, somewhat heavy/syrupy. Something just seemed a little off to me here. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Sep 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep orange with a small, fading white head. Aroma of melon rind, Flavor is light and fruity (melon, apple, pear) with lots of spices (pepper, clove). Not very exciting although certainly drinkable. I would have liked a little funk, seeing as this is supposed to be a saison. BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Sep 14, 2008 This is not the most distinctive beer I’ve had in recent memory, but I thought it pretty good. And at $4.89/22oz, in this day and age it was not a bad "value."
Pours a pretty rich and translucent amber with a less-is-more head which fades quickly to a scum. Aroma is light, lightly fruity and sweet, but not at all funky as you might expect from a farmhouse ale. Flavor is quite light and champagney, with some fruitiness and a pretty good Belgian-spice tang. Mouthfeel is quite light, closer to thin than to cloying, but still not watery.
I’d recommend this beer. After a hot, exhausting day it really hit the spot.
I got this bottle at Discount Liquor in Milwaukee.
