3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 pinkie (116) - New York, USA - MAY 9, 2013
This poured a murky reddish amber with a thin head that fell fast to a thin ring, shimmering wet lace and alcohol legs. Little yeast floating on top. Very light in color for a quad looks more like a barleywine. Nose is raisin, dark fruits, plum, date, caramel malt, candy sugar, a quick glimpse of bread but really more cake like malt and alcohol. Has a very high abv. Taste follows the nose all the way. Raisin, butter and rum. Reminds one of fruitcake. It’s a little out of balance with no bitter at all and lots of booze. It’s immediately warming, medicinal and has just a bit of spice. Mouthfeel is thin and has a sticky fruit juice quality to it. This is a big sweet beer with not a lot of carbonation that finishes dry from all the booze. It was not unpleasant but I would call it an interpretation on the belgian quad.

Bomber bottle and served in my lil Tripel Karmeliet glass: Pours a beautiful deep coppery amber with a fading head. The aroma has notes of rich over-ripened apple, prune, raisin and pear, bubblegum, caramel, pils malt, a touch of iodine/peat oak and plenty of yeast esters. The taste is sweet but not overbearing, fruity and yeasty with a heavy dose of alcohol to cleanse the palate. The mouth feel is sticky and lush with aggressive booze. I like this but missing the darker malts normally found within the genre. This bottle is already two years old but could stand a few more years of aging.

Draft @ Irish mile. Aroma Pours ruby red with no head. Taste is sticky caramel apple which quickly fades into bread yeast. Thought it would be tart but came out boozy and yeasty. Very sloppy.

Sample at Hal & Al’s. The beer is a clear reddish-orange color with a medium thin off-white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of malt and dark fruits. Full, chewy body with flavors of ripe fruit, caramel malt and earthy yeast. The finish is sweet with a malty and woody aftertaste. Decent overall.

From a 12 oz bottle shared in Avon . Pours a clear deep amber with an off white head. Sour cherry aroma. Some caramel and yeast elements. Bitter finish.

Pours a beautiful red-orange color with a low, frothy off-white head. Aroma has a strong dark fruit and dark fruit notes, toffee sweetness, light cinnamon and clove spice later in the nose. Flavor starts off with a pronounced spiciness and moves to a strong raisin middle with an alcohol and yeasty finish. Body is smooth and sugary with fine carbonation and a strong dryness at end of the tasting. Overall a pretty good brew. Sweetness is kept in check by the nice spice provided by the yeast. Very good brew for the price and is very pretty too look at.
