COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Gnome was brewed in homage to the recent arrivals of hoppy Belgian beers that we’re starting to see here in the US. I was really shooting for that beautifully soft hopping that’s found in the Houblon Chouffe, however, the Gnome has developed its own unique characteristics and flavor profile. The base beer is a Belgian triple brewed with White Labs Chimay-style yeast. I really liked the fruit character from this yeast, but man, that stuff still hasn’t dropped bright. The hopping was done with Vanguard, Sterling and East Kent Goldings. I think this beer has a lot of potential, though I’d like another shot at brewing the style. There is a very limited amount of this beer, so if you happen to see it on tap, go ahead and share a pint with your gnomies!

Bottle, 22oz. It pours a hazy, orange-golden body under a small, dense, off-white head. The aroma has a faint yeasty touch, with fruityness, canned peaches and some sugar. Some alcohol too. It’s quite warming on the palate, with a pleasant carbonation level. Fruity, sweet flavor with a yeasty hint, canned peaches and some banana. Lasting finish. Nothing impressive going on here. 140301

I am not a huge fan of high ABV beers. This is acceptable. Not too strong, but still strong. I bought a bottle of this mainly for the name and didn’t think to read too much into it. Yes, my own fault, I was in a hurry before work. I could have one of these every once and a while and while it is still quite tasty, I enjoy having a few beers, and by the feel of this so far, this would be a beer I could have one over a good deal of time. Delicious as a beer, but for my drinking preferences, I would like it a little weaker. Still a damn good brew. Sorry if this was a bad review. It was my first full out review and now that I read this, it was more about my preference to drink than the beer itself. I will have to re-do this again.

Bottle @ Dean to Mouth tasting, courtesy of someone at the tasting I guess. Pours a hazy golden beer with a big white head on top. Aroma is fairly hoppy, hints of citrus, orange and tangerine combined with some yeast. Flavor is quite bitter, hoppy and slightly peppery. Long, light bitter aftertaste. Quite an ok beer.

Good dense & fine yellowish head; hazy ochre-orange beer. Gtrapey/hay/orangelike hops. Not very ’Belgian’ smelling, IMO. Quite bitter, fruity, bitter oranges and grapefruit, bit of quinine. I suspect white candi sugar, but far from obvious. More grapes in the finish, and resin warming up. Very slick, and very dry. Faint alcoholburn. Medium bodied, at least. Quite fruity and good, rather not very Belgian.
