COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Gnome was brewed in homage to the recent arrivals of hoppy Belgian beers that we’re starting to see here in the US. I was really shooting for that beautifully soft hopping that’s found in the Houblon Chouffe, however, the Gnome has developed its own unique characteristics and flavor profile. The base beer is a Belgian triple brewed with White Labs Chimay-style yeast. I really liked the fruit character from this yeast, but man, that stuff still hasn’t dropped bright. The hopping was done with Vanguard, Sterling and East Kent Goldings. I think this beer has a lot of potential, though I’d like another shot at brewing the style. There is a very limited amount of this beer, so if you happen to see it on tap, go ahead and share a pint with your gnomies!

From bottle. Nice tripel-style aroma with yeasty bread, bubblegum, and coriander. Sweet alcohol, honey, and mild hop notes. Medium golden-amber hazy with creamy off-white lacing head. Medium-heavy body with high carbonation. Starts sweet with tons of malt, coriander, and honey. Dry astringent yeasty character with alcoholic warming. Big bitter finish with lingering sweet notes. Nice BSA.

Butelka. Aromat ciasta karmelowego, wanilii, aromatu do ciasta. Ale również mocne aromaty owocowe takie jak morela, wiśnia, banan, rodzynki, litchi i kandyzowany ananas. USTA : mało gazowane i bardzo geste o oleistej konsystencji. Smakowo to jest "duże" piwo. Słodkie o nutach ciasta i waniliowego aromatu do ciasta. Kwaśnieje i przypomina wiśnie i skórkę od pomarańcza. Piwo rozgrzewa swoim alkoholem. Coś pomiędzy mocnym Imperial IPA i Barley Wine. Nie jest łatwe w piciu ale przyjemne. OCENA : smak : 7/10 pijalność : 4/10

650 ml. Clear orange golden with a lasting meringue on top. Nose is spicy honey, resin and a touch of green grapefruit. Taste is honey, evergreen, white wine and earthy grape must. Near-medium body has a nearly-too high carbonation but a very nice balance.

Aromas of stonefruit, golden raisin, viognier grapes. Hazy apricot, lasting bubbly, white head. Quite dry, yeasty, prominant esters, a little redolent of cough syrup. Medium bodied, chewy, nice perceptible strength without being overbearing.

Smuttynose Homunculus has a thin, off-white head, a brilliant, very bubbly, gold-orange appearance, and a bit of splotchy lacing left behind. The aroma is of full, sweet, yeasty, spicy, bready malt, and the flavor is of all that, with distinct pepper and floral hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and Smuttynose Homunculus finishes semi-dry, mellow, hefty, rich, and delicious. Overall, this is outstanding! RJT
