COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Gnome was brewed in homage to the recent arrivals of hoppy Belgian beers that we’re starting to see here in the US. I was really shooting for that beautifully soft hopping that’s found in the Houblon Chouffe, however, the Gnome has developed its own unique characteristics and flavor profile. The base beer is a Belgian triple brewed with White Labs Chimay-style yeast. I really liked the fruit character from this yeast, but man, that stuff still hasn’t dropped bright. The hopping was done with Vanguard, Sterling and East Kent Goldings. I think this beer has a lot of potential, though I’d like another shot at brewing the style. There is a very limited amount of this beer, so if you happen to see it on tap, go ahead and share a pint with your gnomies!

golden with decent white head. nose of solventy alcohol mostly before touches of belgian esters and citrus hops. some bitterness before more solventy alcohol masks and mires the yeast and hop component, though the residual sweetness is low enough to make the beer fairly drinkable. overall not a well fermented beer

"kinda like the bastard child of belgo old guardian and more traditional belgians. the yeast is fruity, spicy ,and sweet, with the hops a little more in the background. some alcohol heat shines through, as dome some bubble gum aroma and flavor. nicely done, tasty brew."

Bottled from Biernavigatie, large sample, served in an Oersoep tulip glass. Clear golden to orange color, medium slight off-white frothy head. Aroma has slight sweet honey, bit spicy, fruity of yeast and hops, bit grassy and spicy, slight malty as well, hint of toffee. Not as much high alcohols as most Belgian beers would have. Soft sweet taste, bit malty, slight flowery and citrussy bitterness, soft alcohol burn. Spicy and dry as well. Medium carbonation, quite full bodied. Totally not like a belgian example, but very typical american-belgo styled. Much more malt based (instead of sugar) and powerful and less crisp and dry. Almost barley-wine-esque. Nice big sipper.
