COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
After a one year hiatus the Imperial Stout is back in action. We figured that after catching a bit of flack for its absence we’d have it return with a bang. We bumped up the starting gravity from 20° P to 24° P. This allowed the beer to finish just over 10% ABV. Like this year’s Barleywine, we’ve decided to play with the hop character, specifically the dry hop presence. Trying to avoid the fiasco of my previous attempt at adding pellets to the fermentor, I did what any good manager would do: I made Charlie add them. He had the advantage of being able to add the hops directly through a top manway and so his besting me in this challenge is not necessarily a sign of his superior brewing skills but more a reflection of my adventurous, try anything spirit (or at least that’s the story I’m stickin’ to). The Charles added 44 lbs of Cascade, split evenly between two batches, or about half a pound per barrel. We then transferred the beer onto seventy-eight pounds of an even mixture of Centennial and Columbus whole flowers, about one pound per barrel. The beer is a little top heavy in terms of the hopping but it seems to be smoothing out a bit as it’s aging. I’d give it six months or so, if you can wait that long. If not, hey, enjoy it anyway.

~’09~ 22oz. Big black stout! It’s got a roasty aroma but not in the typical coffee sense. While it may have a slicker mouthfeel than other more-chewy Impies; there’s still a lot going on! Choc.y malts w/ various nutty flavors and the hops are ever present. It’s a very solid stout.

Svart öl med ett stort, brunt skum. Doft: Frukt, rostat, kakao, vanilj, kola, choklad. Smak: Kaffe, kakao, bränt socker, rostat, övermogen frukt, malt, soya och det kommer tydligt i eftersmaken. Smakar tyvärr inte lika underbart som den doftar. Tror den vill ha mer tid att mogna.

Slightly fruity aroma. The taste is a bit more towards dark chocolate, soy sauce and dark coffee. Bitterness to the aftertaste is heavy and attach himself in the upper part of the mouth forever. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Flaska hos Anders och Frida efter att ha testat lite hembryggder. Lite ristade toner i doften men anmärkningsvärt mycket humle.

04.06.2014, 0,65l bottle @ home:
Big light brown creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich and roasted, dark malts, dark sugar, caramel, chocolate, salty licorice, espresso, soy sauce, grass, hops. Taste is kind of harsh roasted, dark malts, harsh hops, burnt coffee, burnt caramel, hay, grass, licorice, pine needles, ashtray. Longlasting bitterness, dry harsh mouthfeel. Not my cup of tea.

Bottle. Pours black. Great creamy medium brown head. Aroma is chocolate, some coffee, dark roasted malty, some licorice and s touch of dark fruitiness. Flavor is moderately sweet and bitter and roasty. Pretty smooth resin bitterness. Pretty good balance. Medium plus body. Not chewy. Slick. Milk chocolatey. Little stickiness. Alcohol makes its presence clear. Isn’t too big for its own good. Good drinkability. Great beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours an opaque black with a thick tan head. Aroma is merlot and espresso. Taste is dark roasted malt, semi-sweet molasses, espresso and dark chocolate. Alcohol not present in the taste, but comes through as warmth after the swallow. Really Good!

(Bottle). Fine fragrance and taste of roasted malt and chocolate, smooth mouthfeel. Slightly tart and fruity notes in the taste with a nice slightly dry finish. A very pleasant and easy to drink beer, that it has an ABV of 10.1% is not noticeable. I like it!

Bottle shared by Martin, thanks! Black with a espresso coloured head. Roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate in aroma. Taste has roasted malt, sweet notes, vanilla, chocolate, well balanced bitterness. Full body, soft carbonation, smooth. Dry chocolatey after taste.
Well balanced and smooth. Very good!
