Originally brewed in the early 19th century for export from Britain to the imperial court of Russiaís Catherine the Great, imperial stouts are characterized by their dark color & full body. This style features a rich, malty sweetness coupled with aggressive hopping (especially in American interpretations). Notes of dried fruit as well as roasted malt flavors are typically present.

What a unique beer: Not that overly impressive techniques, ingredients or unexpected results culminated in such a fantastic beer, but rather that Iíve never tasted anything like it. This is a hop monster, which leads me to believe I have a very fresh bottle on-hand. The aroma on this is piny/floral hops and licorice. Thatís it. Thatís all I get. Flavor is more of the same. Piny, bitter hop bite, dark fruits (from the hops), licorice and a hint of dark chocolate. Hints of mint and Jaegermeister??? The finish is dry and resiny. This beer tastes like a damn Christmas tree (makes mental note to pick up a couple extra bottles for the holiday). Body is medium. No alcohol burn. Aftertaste is almost asphalt-like, but not in an offensive way. Iím sure itís roasty, but almost all aspects of imperial stout are masked by the copious amount of hops. This is the definition of an ager. Iíd hope the coffee, caramel and chocolate flavors would eventually come through in a couple years, but maybe not as this puts any "Black IPA" to shame, IMO. A force to be reckoned with, but with a price tag to love. $5.50/22 oz.. Pretty good now. Should be fantastic with age on it.

BOTTLE 22 OZ. Pitch black, small beige head. A rich luscious aroma - sweet, malty, molasses, chocolate. Some roasted grains, but no proper coffee/cocoa. The taste is super-rich, sweet, bitter chocolate, strong grassy hops, alcohol. The carbonation might be too high, losing some smoothness. Very good.

10%!!! Smells of berries bitterness chocolate and espresso. Pours a big mocha bown head with black black beer. Taste the hops give it some sort of a berrie/mint coolness a little a tad watery thick/thin bitterness, earthyness some chocolate and esprsso. with a bit of a throat and belly burn. Feels light medium bodied. Big bad mother fucking beer. Cheers!!!!!

Really surprised to see this in Angola, IN. Bomber (bottle conditioned in 2014) to snifter. Poured like motor oil with one finger brown foam head, faded quick. Smelled of roast, chocolate, hops. Thinner body, much dryer than expected. Flavor didn't match nose. Good, higher hopes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

650ml bottle from LCBO. 10% ABV. Opaque black body, medium chocolate head with long lasting foam. Aroma of dark chocolate, wood charcoal, hints of licorice, chocolate liquor, some shy hops behind the sweetness. Taste of burned toast, coffee, licorice, herbs, chocolate, a touch of spiciness and a late warming effect. Fabulous brew.

Ułożony, z dobrymi elementami składowymi smaku i zapachu. Ale nie porywa. Po prostu kolejny bardzo dobry RIS z genialnym aromatem.
