COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally brewed in the early 19th century for export from Britain to the imperial court of Russia’s Catherine the Great, imperial stouts are characterized by their dark color & full body. This style features a rich, malty sweetness coupled with aggressive hopping (especially in American interpretations). Notes of dried fruit as well as roasted malt flavors are typically present.

Bomber received in a trade from Drink4Satan, thanks! Pours very thick. A lot hoppier than I expected in both the nose and the taste. The hops have the edge over the malts in the taste profile, and I like that. Very unusual for a stout. Finish is very long - aftertaste lingers for quite some time. Unusual Imperial Stout, but good to see someone breaking the mold.

Pours darker than the thought of a third Bush presidency with a thin cap the colour of golden sugar. Something slightly off & unwanted in the nose, an almost coppery scent. But don’t worry, this beer is pretty fantastic. Each sip brings an interesting combo of dark powered chocolate backed with a double-barrelled shot of fresh hops. In fact, it’s the chewy, resinous hops that make this imperial stand out from others on the shelf. The flavour here is full & round & a real case study in how to make a serious imperial stout.

Bottle from the Univercity Plaza LCBO. Pours an opaque colour, two finger solid khaki head that starts to die away leaving sheets of lace. Nose is sweet biscuity malt. Tastes sweet, malty, giving way to a slight bitterness, mainly chocolate flavour, a touch of vanilla, Abv burn. Really tasty.

Bottle from the LCBO. Deep mahogany pour with a small dark khaki head that fades slowly to a ring around the edge that leaves some thin lace. Nose is dominantly dark chocolate with coffee, dark fruits, light vanilla and some licorice. Roasty malts give a light sweetness throughout and medium bitter with coffee and chocolate contributing along with a decent level of hopping. Mouth is medium full and silky with soft carbonation . Long bitter finish. Nice stout that manages to conceal the alcohol quite well.

220z bomber dated Feb 2015. Black in color with a oil-slick like viscosity as a small mocha head retreats to a ring around the edge. Lacing is evident as the coffee aroma dominates with each sip. Chocolate, dark fruits, and licorice are there too. Taste is made up of chocolate, licorice, dark fruits, and coffee being the most pronounced. Carbonated, thick and smooth, and extremely drinkable. Earthy hops finish off the palate with a slightly dry bitterness that helps to complete this beauty of an Imperial Stout!

650 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a nearly black dark brown with moderate-sized light brown head. Aroma is dark, charred malt, dark dried fruit, cocoa, some coffee and grains. Flavour is big and rich with lots of ultra roasty malt, coffee and cocoa character, prune and some graininess. Big body. Alcohol is subtle for the ABV. Quite nice.

Very thick, rich and dark texture and colour. A soft tan head with a nose featuring nuts, bitter chocolate, with touches of coffee and hops. The taste profile extends those features, with a warm booziness, milk chocolate, coffee, vanilla and ripe cherries. Thick roast malt and some chalkiness in the finish add to the complex tastes in this well made imperial

Pours black with off-brown head. Aroma of hops, pine and molasses: much hoppier than expected from an imperial stout. 10% abv is very well hidden. Tastes of the same with hops up front and treacly aftertaste. Nice.
