Stellar appearance, pouring an opaque dark brown/black, with a dark chocolate brown head. Huge chocolate aroma accomanied by cofee.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 6, 2010 [Bottle] Pours black with a moderate tan head of largish bubbles that lingers nicely. Aroma has a lot of charred, roasted malts, some meaty smoke, bittersweet cocoa, and a little burnt coffee. Flavor is round and full, with a lot of creaminess. Lots of roasted malts, bordering on charred, some charcoal, some caramelly sweetness, and some coffee. Not terribly bitter, but overall just a little on the roasty side. timbeer (61), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 6, 2010 Chocolate, smokey aroma - almost meaty - and hops on the aroma. Black with a tan head that fades quickly in the middle but lasts for a bit around the edges with a nice bit o lacing. Taste starts off bitter chocolate and transitions to a warming alcohol sensation as it goes down the ’ol tube - not really much sweetness at all. Medium bodied and a mildly creamy texture This was a decent beer but it seemed a bit harsh on the bitterness - perhaps it’s a bit young. mar (1981), Dallas, Texas, USA

2008 vintage. Pours dark brown to black with a beige head. Aroma has quite a bit of alcohol as well as some roasted malt. Flavor is roasted malt with some smoke and a little soy sauce character. Very creamy, medium mouthfeel. fiver29 (736), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 2, 2010 Bottle courtesy of Santa. Thanks Santa!!! Pours black with tan head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, some hops, and brown sugar. Smooth and somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Flavor follows the nose and roasty, chocolatey, and just damn good. Finishes smooth and has a nice lingering chocolate taste. Real nice. Thanks Santa! ivan9856 (131), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 1, 2010 Smuttynose Imperial Stout. I sampled 22 ounces bottled in 2009. This beer poured like motor oil, but tastes like heaven. An extra dark, ebony body topped off by a dense, super-long-lasting, dark tan head. A richly aromatic hop nose is backed by a dense caramel sweetness. Palate entry is tremendously sweet, but quickly tempered by enduring and assertively-hopped dry finish. The buttery mouthfeel also yields mid-palate flavors of vanilla bean, milk chocolate and coffee. This beer is lightly carbonated and has a well-masked high ABV. It’s an excellent long-term sipper to be enjoyed over time. Fantastic! ben4321 (1061), Rockville, Maryland, USA

2009 Bottle that I’ve had for about 5 months
Aroma: The nose has some licorice, roasted coffee, and semi-sweet chocolate
Appearance: Pours a dark brown-black color with a creamy brown head and some drippy lace
Flavor: Taste is balanced, big roasted malt presence with a smooth hop backing
Palate: The texture is thick, and a bit oily, a medium-full body, it does a really nice job of hiding the ABV
Overall Impression:
This beer is pretty solid. I’d heard that it was too strong on hops from some malt lovers, but really, I didn’t think so at all. What I really got was a nice balanced Imperial Stout. I’ve been sitting on this one for a few months, as I’d heard it did well with a little aging. Anyway, it is a very sold beer.

Looks creamy and is exactly that on mouthfeel. Aroma of sweet chocolate and hop. Taste is black licorice, chocolate, roast, and a bit of hop edge as well. Pretty awesome stuff.
