Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

Pours semi-clear with at small, quickly receding head. Aroma was faint. It has a bitter aftertaste with no hop flavor that you expect from an IPA. I cannot understand the high ratings for this brew. Smuttynose can and has done much better.

Perhaps I was expecting too much, but this beer disappointed me. Hops seemed to lack character, other than grassiness and the tiniest hint of floral aroma and taste.

This is HOOOOPPPYYY!!! Man what good brew. I would place it about in between the Stone IPA and Ruination. Freaking great brew. The only thing that held it back was the lack of foam. It had relatively none and what was there faded instantly. Other than that. . . I need to trade for more. :banned:

Hazy amber gold color, topped by a thick inch or more of suds white foam. Good head retention, scant lacing. Mild grapefruit hop aroma. Up front, there is a dry toasted malt with an even drier grapefruit citrus hops. Mouth puckering, but then, oh my - a delicious caramelt malt patiently waits in the background. Medium body, moderate carbonation, very smooth texture. Lingering grapefruit pith in the aftertaste is nice.

Hazy amber/orange with a medium head. Good lacing. Aroma of orange, pine and biscuit. Taste was pretty much identical, with a pleasant bitterness throughout. Light body. Bitter end. Very good IPA.

On tap @ Coles. Buffalo NY One of my favorite East Coast IPA’s. Not overly hopped like West Coast IPA’s but I still like it. Citrus presence & nice golden color. Very nice IPA

Pours hazy golden-orange with a small creamy white head. Strong floral hop aroma, with a light note of grapefruit. Floral and citrusy hop bitterness dominate the flavor, with a lightly sweet and toasty malt presence. Palate is light/medium, a bit creamy, and very bitter. Well balanced and very easy drinking, would’ve guessed higher IBU’s.

Very floral aroma, good head that lasts for several minutes after a pour and a very pleasing color, some sediment, and fairly respectable carbonation release.

Pours a nice dark golden with a white head and a little bit of it hangs around. Nice aroma of citris and pine. Same taste as the aroma with a nice grassy bitterness. You can’t go wrong with this one. It does NOT work with slow cooked meat and potatoes though.

Strong pine aroma. Very light golden brown color sporting a medium palate. The taste is really heavy in the pine department with a medicine like flavor in the mix. Not nearly as good as I was hoping.
