2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz. bottle. Not one of my favorites. The hop element is decidedly herbacious, matching the vigorous patch of grass featured on the label. The beer pours a lovely rich golden color but the initial pour is chased by a MASSIVE amount of sediment that is quite bitter and fairly unpleasant. I like unfiltered beers but this is just overkill. The beer becomes almost chewy at the end of the glass and has a funk with the slightest suggestion of bacteria.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This IPA from Smuttynose ranks with some of the best weíve had. Pours a light amber color with virtually no head. Aromaís of strong hops with grapefruit and lemon notes. Initial flavor is heavy bitter, finishing moderately bitter. Fizzy carbonation on the mouth. Excellent.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours deep gold color with a fluffy off-white head. Great lacing. Piney, citrusy aroma, with some bready malts. Really nice, warm bitterness. Starts off with a sweeter apricot flavor then edges into the hoppy bitterness. Palate is fairly smooth, not a whole lot of carbonation, but not flat, you can see some bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. This is one of the best ipa s Iíve had from a bottle in a while.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a light orange, hazy. Nice foamy head, lasting. Aroma is grassy hops, slight sweetness. Taste is fresh, leafy hops with a nice fruity balance. Slightly toasted malts, hints of butter. Finish is fruity, slight creeping bitterness. Great soft mouthfeel, nice and creamy. Very balanced IPA.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a slightly hazy pale orange with a one inch thick white head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves behind a nice webbing of lace.
Smell; piney hops, as well as some citruc oranges and grapefruit. This has a nice hint of malt in the nose to go along with the hops.
Taste; lots of pine and citric grapefruit hops hit you and first but are somewhat beat back by a nice malt presence. Not a big hop monster of an IPA due to the malts, which is kind of nice for a change. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly oily, with just enough carbonation for me. This is a very good IPA, that I hope to be able to get more of someday.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
I really like this IPA. Pours golden-amber with a medium head. Aroma of citrus, flowers and a little pine. Full-bodied with a little carbonation. Grapefruit flavor really stands out to me. Complemented with pine, a touch of sweetness and great bitterness at the end.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
smooth for an IPA. Some floral hoppiness, bitter finish. Full mouth feel. A little off- not quite hoppy enough for me.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nice musty IPA with considerable hops. Very bitter finish and constrained malt character. I respect the people at Smuttynose and consider this IPA to be a success however nothing sets it apart. Consistent brew from a consistent brewery.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Woo! Too bitter. I like more hop flavor and less hop bitterness, with some malt to boot. Smutty does malt so well that Iím surprised this beer is so one-dimensional. With less grapefruit.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
eyedrinkale sent this bottle my way. a lightly softened IPA, with a straightforward though balanced aroma of american (and english - fuggles/goldings?) hops and malt. lightly yeasty and sour elements of the aroma as well, which donít bode particularly well for the beer but donít particularly detract, either. flavor is more subdued than the aroma, especially the malt. lots of strong dusty hops in the finish, and it would be a very dry and non-existent finish if it werenít for the strong bitterness that lingers on my tongue. a little overdone for my taste, i think something not quite there. i think iíll need another bottle eventually.
