COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

Intense grapefruit and lemon rind aroma, dripping with an incredible dry-hopped presence, multiple layers of earth and lemon and citronella in the aroma. Love that it is unfiltered. Intensely bitter, but never stringy. Resiny, luscious and for total hopheads. I was surprised at the quality of this beer. Served in good glassware at the frat party that is known as Cole’s Restaurant in Buffalo, NY.

Bon corps.

Sampled at the Vermont Brewers Fest 2005. Clear golden pour with a ring of white lace. Aroma of citrusy hops. Flavor of citrusy hops with malt and caramel. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation.

UPDATED: FEB 12, 2006 tasty, a great session beer, could easilyhave 3-4 of these in a sitting, good hops, not overly malty. i just love it that the old men on the bottle have such great tastes

Pours a somewhat cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma is mildly grassy with some grapefruit notes. Flavor is resiny and a "mixed bag" of hops, but very little in the way of maltiness. Body is med.-light. Finish is heavily bitter but not astringent.

Rich, slightly cloudy, amber color. Nice spike of hops to the nose that make me think of fresh cut hay. Splits your tongue almost completely in half with some sweetness up front, bitter in the back, and a solid bar of grapefruit across the middle. My batch was just a mite too grapefruit to warrant a better score

Hazy bodied, somewhat sharply bitter with some grapfruit, woody and earthy hops; hoppiness carries on throughout; some subtle toasty and bready malt notes; good, but not a standout for me.
