Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBUís, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way thatís not easy to find. We think theyíll be quite pleased.

12oz bottle, shared with VeloVampire - pours a hazy light orange (due to the chunky yeast sediment in the bottle) with a lightly rocky white head. Aroma is of citrusy hops, but they are light in the nose. The taste reveals this is a very balanced IPA, with the hops very evident, but not screaming to make themselves known. Thereís a good citrus/earthiness there in the finish, and very little aftertaste. Moreover, I like the guy on the left of the bottle label. I want to know where he got his boots because Iím dressing up like him next Halloween.

Generally a nice and easy drinkable IPA. The aroma is nice with estery fruity flavours of melon and other ripe fruits. It has a honey like sweetness to it and is fresh and light. Better on tap than on bottle.

Murky yellow body with chunks of yeast in it (completely unintentionally), with a quarter of an inch of head. Smells very very hoppy, both piney and citrusy. Citrusy hops and bitter hops dominate the flavor, though I think they may be subdued somewhat by the yeast. Medium to full in body. Very tasty and enjoyable. Surprisingly drinkable.

Nice orange color with a good sized foamy head. Nice hop aroma. Very good hoppy flavor and bitterness. An easy to drink IPA. Another winner from Smuttynose.

A very well balanced IPA. Got it from my father after he got it in a blind buy. Nice color to it. No taste really sticks out more than any other, rather each taste compliments the other. I donít think that this is amongst the best IPAs, but it certainly is one of the most balanced and drinkable IPAs. Alcohol taste was subtle and everything was in check. Love the label, but think that the name is just weird.

UPDATED: MAR 16, 2007 Iím sure this IPA is great from the bottle, but itís absolutely maginificent on tap, about 45 miles from the brewery. A bit chill-hazed, but thatís fine by me. The aroma pales only by comparison to the flavour. Mmmmmmmmm... Chinook. (Upon research) OK, OK. So Chinook isnít the only hop that imparts that lovely white-grapefruit citrus note. Mmmmmmmmm... Amarillo.

Pours a light gold with a nice fluffy lasting head. Aroma is great. A little pineapple & grapefruit. Flavor is sort of dry and a little bitter with a floral taste. Very Nice.

12 oz. bottle via trade with Ty5592 - Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a huge ass head. Didnít even pour the whole bottle in the glass. Left lots of lacing as the head settled. It also left a 3/4" foam berg after most of the head settled. Caziest thing Iíve seen. Has your typical citrus hops aroma and flavor. Not much malt support here. Medium body. Nothing fancy, just a easy drinking IPA. Thanks Ty.

Pours a gold clear gold with a nice chunky foam head. Nice aroma of piney citrus, caramel malt, and hops. A balanced IPA with a good amount of hops, but also lots of caramel malt. Medium mouthfeel. Another great Smuttynose.
