COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

355ml bottle. Pours orange with a large head. Aroma is some orange hops with a little pine. Taste starts bitter with some creamy malt. Strong bitter finish. Less hop flavour just really bitter. Maybe an oldish bottle but I’m loving it.

I don’t know, this is good, but it didn’t really live up to the high ratings. Smell was a bit of skunky lager to it. Flavor is balanced, on the sweeter side, fairly bitter finish.

From a twelve ounce bottle bought for me from my galpal April at "Jungle Jim’s Market" - Alright, this one poured out am effervescent light brown beer with a rapidly fading, finely bubbled, off-white head of foam and a rich hops and malts aroma. Tastewise, this is a fine IPA, but it seems to have an almost a freshly baked bread flavor as part of its body! A good beer.

Purchased at Family Beer and Liquor in East Dubuque, IL. Beer pours a hazy gold/orange pour with a nice white head. Smell of citrus and pine. Flavor is bitter grapefruit and finishes nice and crisp

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Dark golden - copper colour, off-white head. Aroma is hoppy, light floral. Flavour is malted, hoppy, citrus and a bit of pine. Ok stuff.

Pours cloudy orange with plenty of "floaters". Head is small, white. Looks nice. Smells good, good, too. Aroma is citrus and resin. Unfortunately I found the flavor lacking. Quite bitter and grassy, but very light tasting. It wasn’t nearly as assertive as it smelled. Finish is all bitter but little linger.

Reviewed from notes. Pours a dark-ish golden color with a single-finger white head and a bit of lacing. The nose brings some grassy, floral, and citrus hops. The flavor is unfortunately short a bit on these flavors, but does bring a good amount of bitterness without letting too much malt get in the way. Good body with nice carbonation. Bottled @ Beer Temple, Amsterdam. The aroma has grass, citrus and some malt. Bit hazy, orange coloured beer with a slight off-white, lasting head. The taste is medium bitter, citric, grassy. Dry and more bitter in the end. Good, clean IPA.
