Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBUís, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way thatís not easy to find. We think theyíll be quite pleased.

UPDATED: NOV 27, 2006 A very sharp and refreshing IPA. Plenty of fresh hoppiness and lingering bitterness. Sometimes the sharpness of the beer lends itself to be somewhat unbalanced, but overall a very fine IPA.

Pours a cloudy golden amber. Nose is hops, citrus and small bits of pine. Flavor is much of the nose, with hoppy bitterness, and the pine coming through a bit more in the flavor.

UPDATED: AUG 14, 2006 Pourrs amberish bronzeish, with a small white head. Aroma is dominated by citrussy hops, with a bit of malt sweetness. Flavor is dominated by piney and citrussy hops, very bitter. Not a ton of balance, so it doesnít get into the class of great IPAís but being very hoppy and bitter means it isnít half bad.

Bottle. Very hoppy aroma, I love that smell. Very crisp and clean. Appearance has a very generous head with enough suds too stay till the end, very pale amber look. Flavor is a little bitter but not too much, hoppy with slight malt aftertaste. Very smooth with a decent palate. Good IPA.

Not bad. Nice malts and a lot of citrusy hops, a big explosion of oranges and grapefruits. Nice mouthfeel, highly drinkable.

Pours a dark amber color with a thick white head. Aroma is dominated by hops. Piney as hell. The flavor is full of strong bitter hops with a bit of a thin finish. Extremely piney beer. Iíd love to try a fresher version of this one.
