COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

"Pours cloudy light brown color. Small head with lacing that lasted about half the beer. Has a hoppy citrus smell to it as well as taste. Am not a huge IPA fan but this one was okay."

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2006 12 oz. bottle. Aroma of pine needles and a little grapefruit and grass. Pours a cloudy light copper with small diminishing head. Big hop taste with a bitter finish. Aftertaste of some sweet malts. My description doesn’t really do this justice. The only thing I’m mad about it myself for only picking up a sixer in Wisconsin.

Bottle. Pours a medium brown with minor head. Huge pot aroma. great outdoors in a bottle. Tastes like hoppy summer lawn juice. awesome! Modest finish, leaves a hopsticker on the roof of the mouth.

bottle...bottle conditioned I assume. Hazy golden pour with medium white head. Lots of floating yeast/debris. The aroma I got while pouring was that of dill pickle juice. Interesting, to say the least. Citrusy aroma, with some pine hops. Significant amount of citrus. Sweet and citrusy to start, bittering in the middle, with heavy resinous hop grapefruit bitterness to finish. Fairly complex, with a nice mouthfeel.

On tap. Pretty standard IPA in most regards. Poured a rich orange/copper with the standard thin white head. Citrus and pine with a bit of a mild fruit undertone. Worth revisiting.

Pours with a thick, rocky, off-white head on a cloudy light-orange body. Grapefruit hops aroma. Malty body with a citric hoppy finish on a medium body.

Hazed golden color with a small but stable off white head. Huge fresh hops/grapefruit nose. Mild dough and biscuit background. Light sweet pale malt start that gets balanced quite well by a light citric and slightly floral hops. Seems slightly thinner in the end and finish with a mild pine wood component. (7+). A mild malt return late in the finish. Seems to have more pine the further one travels into this one. Quite good.

A very nice beer. Pours gold and cloudy, looks like a belgian style ale. Very hoppy nose, very hoppy flavor with a very sneaky sweetness that is quite enjoyable. Nice long finish, a high quality beer.

Floral aroma with a good amount of head. Cloudy gold in color. Typical IPA flavoring with a good amount of bitterness. Not an outstanding IPA but certainly better than the commercial levels of the style.
