Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBUís, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way thatís not easy to find. We think theyíll be quite pleased.

Tap-Poured out a golden light amber with a small quickly dissapating head. The aromas are of hops and citrus and also in the flavor as well. Not bad, just not my favorite style.

This is a phenomenal IPA. Great aroma and very distinct taste. Stands out among IPAs.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2008 Pours a light amber color with moderate head. Smells if citrus hops with a bit of grass and lemon zest. Taste is of citrus, pine, a hint of lemon, and malt to balance this baby out. This is a terrific IPA, one of the best Iíve head. Itís very drinkable and has an overall great mouthfeel.

This beer offers a hearty hops aroma that has a boiled corn fragrance in the background. It is a translucent maize colored solution with a thin white head. The hops are defiantly present in the taste. This beer has a bitter disposition from introduction to exit. Behind the bitter, there is a sweet taste of clove and honey. The throat is left with a strong bitter aftertaste lingering.

12 oz bottle courtesy of Illinismitty. Poured a murky golden color with a nice foamy white head that left some lacing. Great hop aroma with lots of citrus in the nose. Lots of crisp, bitter citrus hops in the flavor. Long lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. A good IPA.

12oz. bottle. Not one of my favorites. The hop element is decidedly herbacious, matching the vigorous patch of grass featured on the label. The beer pours a lovely rich golden color but the initial pour is chased by a MASSIVE amount of sediment that is quite bitter and fairly unpleasant. I like unfiltered beers but this is just overkill. The beer becomes almost chewy at the end of the glass and has a funk with the slightest suggestion of bacteria.

This IPA from Smuttynose ranks with some of the best weíve had. Pours a light amber color with virtually no head. Aromaís of strong hops with grapefruit and lemon notes. Initial flavor is heavy bitter, finishing moderately bitter. Fizzy carbonation on the mouth. Excellent.

Pours deep gold color with a fluffy off-white head. Great lacing. Piney, citrusy aroma, with some bready malts. Really nice, warm bitterness. Starts off with a sweeter apricot flavor then edges into the hoppy bitterness. Palate is fairly smooth, not a whole lot of carbonation, but not flat, you can see some bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. This is one of the best ipa s Iíve had from a bottle in a while.

Pours a light orange, hazy. Nice foamy head, lasting. Aroma is grassy hops, slight sweetness. Taste is fresh, leafy hops with a nice fruity balance. Slightly toasted malts, hints of butter. Finish is fruity, slight creeping bitterness. Great soft mouthfeel, nice and creamy. Very balanced IPA.

Pours a slightly hazy pale orange with a one inch thick white head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves behind a nice webbing of lace. Smell; piney hops, as well as some citruc oranges and grapefruit. This has a nice hint of malt in the nose to go along with the hops. Taste; lots of pine and citric grapefruit hops hit you and first but are somewhat beat back by a nice malt presence. Not a big hop monster of an IPA due to the malts, which is kind of nice for a change. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly oily, with just enough carbonation for me. This is a very good IPA, that I hope to be able to get more of someday.
