COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

12 oz. bottle @ Beer Temple (had it on tap there too, about a year ago?). Big creamy head with lacing. Light orange colored. Smells really weird, earthy, vegetal, herbal, a little (dark) malt. Once in the mouth is where it happens, lots of bittering hops, bitter flavor, a little bit acidic even. Medium bodied. Long bitter finish. apart from the smell: enjoyable.

Once in the glass this IPA is a hazy orange with a light white head. At first I picked up the smell of lemon that evolved into an overall citrus aroma. Sweet malt also came through. This IPA is bitter at the start with virtually no sweetness. Overall the bitterness is moderate and hangs around after each sip. The beer is crisp with good carbonation.

Bottle from Beer Ritz. Golden pour with an off-white head. Looks good. Fresh hop aromas with a splash of citrus, peaches and mangoes. Sharp citrus flavours. Fruity, hop infused finish. Good stuff.

Medium white head. Hazy amber body with small particles. Strawy fruity resiny honeyish aroma with citric earthy notes. Dry-sweet wooden tropical fruit and resin taste with citric strawy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild mouthfeel. Dry resiny grassy tropical fruit aftertaste with strawy earthy notes. Excellent, balanced IPA. (0.33l bottle, Håndverkerstuene, Oslo.)

355 ml bottle @den gode nabo. Hazy orange body with a nice off-white head. Aroma with lots of citric fruit and just a hint of caramel. Flavor has a sharp bitterness with much citric fruit and caramel malt. Moderate sweetness. Medium body. A nice IPA, actually close to a DIPA in bitterness. Not really complex, has a sharp and distinct bitterness, quite fruity and relatively clean flavor. Rough and tough.

Bottle, pours hazy, unfiltered orange, small white head reducing to a cap of lace and foam. Nose is big and juicy, with clementine, tangerine, pine. The best kind of bitter: big citrus flavors, and one of the strongest malt backbones I’ve experienced in a basic IPA...burnt toffee mainly. Very nice surprise.

Pours a hazy brown yellow. It’s unfiltered, so this is expected. The aroma is citrus and flowery. The taste is medium bitter with a nice aftertaste. The finish is clean despite being unfiltered. Very good IPA for my tastes.

Bottle. Pours golden copper and clear with a bit of white head. Aroma is very hoppy, floral, grassy, herbal. Taste is dominated by hops with a hint of malt. Decent bitterness. Very solid overall, pretty much what you would expect from an ipa.
