Pours a clear golden amber with a 1 inch white head with decent retention. Pretty good lacing. Aromas of citrus, lemon, grass, and hops. Flavors start as citrus then move into the hop resin, and a bitter finish. Plate is light and bubbly. theisti (1696), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 4, 2008 12 oz bottle courtesy of eaglefan538. Best before Feb 09 stamped on the bottle. Pour is hazed golden orange with a nice one inch off white head. There are a few carbonation bubbles rising slowly to the top. Some lacing after the head settles. Aroma of hops - resin, pine, some citrus peel and ripe pear fruit sweetness. There is malt present as well, grainy and also resinous. Taste is mostly the bitter citrus peel hoppiness initially, though the earthy grainy maly is present in the body, which is medium. The bitterness trails through the beer, and lingers a bit too long in a somewhat sour bitter finish. Overall, a nice, unique IPA - would love to try this fresh on draft, as I imagine that is the way to drink this beer. Thanks for sending this my way, Brian. Blaketj80 (78), Oklahoma, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 3, 2008 Very grapefruit hop character. Not very well balance, and maybe should be called ruby red ipa. Ok, but not anything impressive. cloudstrife (50), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 1, 2008 12oz bottle poured into glass. Great smell of hops, some acidic fruit, and a hint of malt. Light copper haze color with a white head that lasts throughout the drink. Bitter at first but finishes very smooth considering the amount of hops that give the pleasant taste to this brew. Overall a great Smuttynose brew, would highly recommend it to any hop head. JCastner (108), New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 28, 2008 Pours a pale copper with a medium white head, medium carbonation. Aroma is of butter, oranges, and some grass-iness. Medium to light body with very bitter flavor up front/some smokiness in the malt but not the complexity that I expected from the nose. The finish is quite flat, although the roasted malt keeps itself present. ketchepillar (498), Des Moines/Grinnell, Iowa, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 27, 2008 Aroma: pretty boring; hay malt. Not a lot of hops. Pine. Flavor: Interesting malt character in this one. I like it, it has some chocolate, even coffee, like a red or american strong on a nice, full, yet balanced sweet base. Hops are pretty tasty in this one good earthy pine with a lasting pleasantly rough bitterness. Palate could use some work. Kinda watery, needs a little more carbonation. Not an overpowering IPA, but very solid. IlanMan (850), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Bottle: Pour was medium golden with a full creamy white head. Aroma was of very fresh citrusy hops and light peach. Very full flavor with light sweetness and fresh hops. Fresh and great. Very easy and enjoyable drink. Would buy again. Aroma - sweet, citrusy hops, yeast
Appearance - brownish orange/amber with very little white head
Flavor - hops up front, yeast, lingering roasty malt bitterness
Palate - slightly thin
Overall this is a good IPA, not glorious, but good.
