COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

Malty caramel malt, caramel to pretty hoppy. Appearance is an amber orange with a khaki head good sized head. Is more tart than bitter, but it is a very good balance. Overall, light to medium sweet. Medium body with a thick texture and soft carbonation. The finish is long. One of the best beers I have ever put my lips to!

This is a VERY GOOD IPA. I mean VERY good. Nice hoppy and bitter head. Finishes with hops and a mix of malt - at least to my pallet. I like it! I would seek it out again!

bottle from Bierkompass. Hazy amber colour, large off-white head. Hoppy nose. Bitter-sweet, slightly resiny, citrusy hops with a touch of ananas.

Nose is leaves, bitter, dry hops, later sour cream, feel is mediumfat, carb is mediumheavy, taste is early sweeter hops, then pine, and later dry hops and weak earthy notes.

Bottle. Hazy copper with not-very-flocculent, bottle conditioning, yeasties floating around. Aromas of caramel, biscuit, grapefruit, grass, flower. Flavors of caramel, biscuit, grapefruit, honey. Slightly sweet finish with hop attenuation. Medium body with slick mouthfeel and moderate, sharp carbonation.

Poured a hazy deep golden with bigger than normal white head with some lacing. I just had a Raging Bitch IPA that I loved and this is a more traditional IPA. Nice hoppiness right away with grassy/citris notes. A well made IPA.

Tap @ Iona. Clear, orange-gold our with a thin, off-white head which leaves a dense lace. Fine carbonation, medium body. Grapefruit hops all through and mixed with the buttered toast malt. There is a slight oiliness which gives this IPA a remarkable mouth feel.

12 oz bottle. Lotta hops here which I like, but this one tends to be a bit one sided at times. Nothing wrong with that if you’re looking for a hop fix I suppose. Pour was decent, some creamy off white head, light sticky lacing, hazy and dull tangerine in color. Pine and mixed citrus come out strong in the nose, with light grassy herb, caramel, and light toasted cereal grains. The body is medium-full for an ipa, but the finish isn’t overly chewy or sticky like I would expect. Leafy pine from the start, but citrus and mixed fruits come right after. Some cereal grains and caramel in there, but not much else malt wise. They play they’re part though as this is definitely not hop juice. Melon fruits and some tropical fruits in there through the finish. A medium lasting finish. This to me really was a great showcase of hops. However, its not the most complete ipa, though i still found it quite enjoyable.
