COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

Very nice daily drinking ipa. Lots of raw/fresh flavors, and very well balanced. Good aroma, flavor, and palate.

12 oz bottle. Getting up there on IPA’s (98 rated). Orange gold color, slightly hazy. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is grapefruit and a little floral. A medium bodied IPA. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are grapefruity and floral, slightly grassy. A fairly bitter IPA. Nice balance. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean, crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Orange-gold with big, foamy, white head / Muted nose of citrus and cream / Medium body, creamy, with bitter hops tipping balance over fruit, and with good, bitter, finish / Restrained but elegant flavors of orange peel, pineapple, pine, and resin / Not special, but well done.

Nice pour with a thick dense head. Modest hop aroma. This was "meh" but was too dryish bitter and green ,I essentially took big gulps to get this said and done and went to something better,which wasn’t hard to do. I give this a BOO Hiiss! Over hyped.

Bottle, from acurtis. I have liked everything I have had from Smuttynose, and this would be no exception. The hops did seem a little dead, so I’m sure this is a whole different ball game when fresh. Still pretty good though.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2012 Pours a clear golden, with a few floaties. The aroma and flavor is woody and piney hops. Smooth mouthfeel, finish is crisp and very clean, with a sophisticated dry hoppiness.

Hazy orange copper with a small white head that settles to barely coating the top. The hop aroma is very floral, with very slight pine and citrus, I can just barely detect Amarillo. There is also a strong amount of faintly grainy caramel malt. The flavor starts out with moderately sweet malt and finishes very bitter. 65 ibu’s seems way low. Lighter bodied I would say, with a low amount of prickly carbonation. Not really big in the hop flavor and aroma, but the bitterness makes up for it.
