COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

12 oz bottle from Mark. Cloudy orange/yellow pour with a fluffy white head that leaves some great lacing. Citrus/hoppy aroma. Medium body, nice full hoppy flavor, again with notes of citrus that lingers into a bit of a bitter finish. Very good beer.

The aroma on this one escapes me, kind of a stale wet paper for some reason. Pours golden with a medium head. Taste vindicates it as the aroma had me worried. Great grapefruit hop bitterness with a malt backbone that’s in the background, but still obvious and has a mild sweetness. Heavier body than most IPAs and the bitterness lingers for a long time. Very tasty. I would definitely try it again.

On tap @ Specific Gravity, Salisbury Md-Clear golden color w/a moderate white head. Mild hop aroma. Flavors of hop & grapefruit, not really too much else going on. Fairly pedestrian IPA, not bad, just average. Moderate hop finish. Rating #900....trudging my way to beer god status!!!

12 oz bottle from a variety pack. Pours hazy golden with a large, long lasting, white head and much lacing. Aroma of bready malt and citrus hops. Medium - full, tangy body. Citrus hops, sweet biscuit malt and ripe fruit are balanced on the palate. Long, dry, grapefruit finish. This beer is more balanced (more malt and less hops) than their Pale ale.

This is my favorite IPA! great balance of hops, malt, and that nice citrus fruit you get from an ipa.

pours a somewhat cloudy dark copper orange with a nice creamy bubbly white head. aroma is carame malt, oranges, and orange peel. flavor is the same as aroma but stronger and has some pine. has some great lacing and the flavors stick around on the aftertaste for a bit. very nice.

I tip my hat to Smutty for crafting this tasty beer. Strong gold color with a small white head. Aromas of grass, herbal/floral hops. The taste is grassy with some pine needles, but unique because of a nice citrus kick. A hidden flavor of zesty oranges and grapefruit. Bittersweet aftertaste, easy to drink. Quite good.

I can remember having this on cask at the GBBF and it knocked my socks off. Now I drink alot of it in the bottle, its my brother-in-law’s favorite. Its always good. I wish it weren’t so strong, it affects the drinkability and my head the next day. Their use of hops is spot on, the aroma and taste full and exciting.
