COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

White foam. Smells like a golden ale rather than a IPA. Dark yellow color with sediment. Taste is light and crisp with a distinct citrus bite. Ends with bitter hops. Very drinkable and solid IPA. Bring a 6’er of this to any picnic or outdoor summer event.

This was a really nice IPA, an excellent blend of malt and hops that does not come across as overly bitter. Nice hop aroma and the beer starts off with good hoppiness then mellows out to slight maltiness at the end. A good IPA.

aroma is nutty, piney malt. hits of resin occur. substantial mouthfeel with huge sessionable pine and more resin. super polished gold defies big multifaceted flavor.

Bottle. 12 oz. Pours cloudy orange with a thin white head. Aroma of orange, lemon, hops, pine and subtle caramel. Medium body with a tight, tart palate. Hoppy, bitter finish. Pretty good IPA.

Bottle poured a clear gold with a lasting ivory head. Aromas of biscuit, earthiness and pine. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of biscuit, earthiness, pine and light grapefruit with a smooth dry lingering bitter finish.

A deep straw-color and unfiltered body, complete with plenty of floaters, hint at the goodness to come from this 12 oz bottle poured into a snifter. The nose positively reeks of lemongrass, and the flavor quickly washes away into a long, long finish of bitter dregs and the tiniest hint of pale malt sweetness. This also laces the glass amply, as a good ipa should. Smutty consistently churns out good table beers for everyday drinking. My beer belly and I applaud them for their efforts.

Draft at ChucrhKey. Poured a clear medium orange color. The head was thick, foamy, and off white with good retention and lacing. Smelled of sweaty hop, grass, and pale malt. Medium bodied and delicately sweet with moderate bitterness. Pine and pale malt flavors. Nice American IPA.

wow blown away by the hops, way too much bitterness and not enough malt flavor - i would pass on this one if offered to me again...
