COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

An average IPA. Aroma was so so. LIght malt, ginger ale and grassy hops. Pour was medium gold with a one finger off white head. Taste was different. Very strong biting carbonation with not much else coming through. Nice strong, dry bitter aftertaste. More flavor in the front would have made this beer great.

Hazy golden, with little bits of goodness floating around, nice foamy, sudsy head, nice lacing. Aroma strong of citrusy hops. The flavor begins with a malt sweetness that quickly gives way to a blast of hoppiness, helped greatly by the strong hop aroma, and never looks back. Sticky and resinous as it warms. The finish is long, and varying on my tongue, some residual sweetness on one part of my tongue and chewy hops everywhere else. Very good, welcome to Ohio Smuttynose!

sample at a brewclub tasting for comparison. This was the favorite IPA for more than one of the members in attendance, but not me. This one is for the guys who like it bitter. Its a fairly standard IPA with pale sweet malts behind a wall of bitterness. Its a well done beer but seriously unbalanced. Long bitter finish that you will remember. There is no way this is only 65 IBU.

Does not really smell like its gonna be an IPA. Just slightly metallic to the olfactory. Slight haze in an otherwise almost pale yellow liquid. Some signs of carbonation within, no head. First taste; OOOOh, taste is flat and bitter, like chewing on a green grapefruit rind or somethin. Taste is on style and quite bitter. Some pine tree sap bitterness is there too and it sticks like handsoap on the tasetbud. I’m very surprized cause this is a pretty cheap beer. Most high class beers with this level of micro IPA intensity are much more expensive round here. Cheap flat and bitterly intense, what else could a ratebeerian want? Not pleasing to a typical lager lover, eh?

Spillata al beer world party 2010 al 420... ottima IPA, molto equilibrata, rinfrescante, profumata e asciutta...

Bottle to chilled pint glass. Small head with excellent lacing. Couldy yellow / amber color with chunky particles in it. Light malt flavors. Heavy hop flavors with notes of floral, citrus & grapefruit. Medium body with creamy texture and light soft carbonation. Excellent beer.

12oz. Aroma is a nice blend of resin, caramel and apricot. Flavor is strong hops, unbalanced and very bitter; it lingers. Pleasant in its own way but definitely not for a light beer drinker.

Cask at GBBF 2009, 7th August 09. Still, slightly hazy golden amber. Intense hop aromas and flavours - citrus, grass, even nettles. However the palate is rather cloying, syrupy and heavy. This is what lets it down - a lack of condition.
