Commercial Description:
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

My favorite beer. Drank about 10 billion of these and am shocked I never rated it. Anyways, pours a nice bright yet cloudy orange color with a frothy off white head. Nose is fruity and citrus with a hint of grassiness. A nice lively palate that tickles the tongue and throat. Finishes crisp and refreshing. Flavors of citrus, a light caramel hint here or there. wonderful for all occasions!

June 2006 - Another nice offering by the Smutty guys. Beer poured pale orange color, nice fluffy head with nice lacing and loads of little yeasties floating all in the beer. Aroma was grapefruit and the flavor was as well. This was crisp, refreshing and a perfect balance between malt and hops. As noted elsewhere, the malt character was really nice with a biscuity presence that went well with the citrus, surprisingly enough. And, for the price, this is hard to beat for your IPA hankerings!

Orange, very dense pour, small white head Smells of citrus and hops. Piney, citrus mouth, tingles my palate. Very well hopped. Full of citrusy zing but not overpowering, I love IPAs!! and this one is no exception.

Bottle. Particle flecked orange with an off white head. Hoppy nose, grapefruit, floral and pine. Medium body. Citrus and lemon in the flavor with some pine notes. Very good.

Poured into a pint glass, this beer manifests as a saffron body underneath a finger of white, fluffy, sticky head. Lots of lacing and good retention. Smells of floral and piney hops, earthy malt, citrus. Two-faced hop profile of sweet citrus and bitterness. A little lemon and a little biscuity malt. A bit sticky from all those resiny hops but smooth and carbonated well. Very easy to drink at 6.6%, works as a summer refresher. Good beer.

Cloudy golden-yellowish color, little head. Flower, hoppy nose. Flavor starts of great with bombardment of hops, ends with a weak aftertaste that left me disappointed.
