Commercial Description:
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

Smells of citrus hops. Pours a dark copper with lots of floating things. Tastes well balanced with a good amount of hops. Not sure how I feel about the floating stuff. Theres some really big chunks in there. A good tasting IPA though, but I could do with more hops.

Great citrus smell right from the start, with a somewhat darker color than expected, but still that yellow brown of an IPA. Heavy but not overly so in the malt, nicely hoppy but still decidedly bitter in the after taste. IPA should be that way but maybe just a bit too much, a bit too dry instead of tangy in the hops would be a bit more balanced. Not a bad taste, but the bitterness just continues to linger and linger in the after taste. Also feels warm at the end, must be the alcohol coming through - at least it’s not actually in the taste but at 6.6% I can understand it. Still good, but a bit unhappy with the finish. Just so close to being even better.

ok, what the hell how the hell is finest kind an alias for this, since this to me was eh, and finest kind was a big marijuana ipa that made me all happy. smelled like weed and tasted like it too. 6th of my 10 tasting flight @ Portsmouth. Pours an ugly lager looking yellow with a bright white head. Nose is light and hoppy. Pretty nice taste with lots of pine but a bit too high on the bitter side for me unbalanced with the hop taste.

12 oz bottle. This is the one! The first craft IPA I ever "fell in love" with. From the hilarious label, to the cute seal logo, to the overall classiness of the Smuttynose operation; we have us a winner here folks. Unapologetically unfiltered, perfectly hopped, and appealing enough to make you keep coming back for more. Whenever I try a new IPA, I ask myself "how does this compare to good old Smutty?" A very difficult question to ask of 99% of the IPAs out there...

Nice copper color with little head. Nice flowery hop aroma, as well as caramel roasted malts. Nice floral hops pervade the taste and there are lightly toasted malts to balance the robust, piney hop backbone. This is a well balanced and well constructed IPA.

Pours a nice honey color with a light head that dissipates quickly. Fair amount of hoppy flavor touched by a hint of citrus and very subtle sweetness. Creates a crisp sensation on the mid-tongue and back of the palate.

12 oz best by 11-07. Slightly cloudy orange-gold with a medium and lasting head. Aroma is citrus, pine and dry cereal grain. Flavor is light honey drizzled on grapefruit, pine resin, and dry cereal. Strong grapefruit and sweetened dry cereal aftertaste. Medium-bodied and smooth; dry, but not real tingly on the finish.
