COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

Bottle and most certainly one of the beers that first introduced me into the style. Copper orange body with a white head. Citrus and some grapefruit. Full with a sweet juicy hop character and a dry bitter finish. Awesome.

Bottle. Hazy, orange-tinged brew. The grapefruit hop flavor is more of the bitter, rindy sort, than the freshly squeezed juice. This isn’t the warm citrus of Cascade hops. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Nice malt backbone. Finish is on the dry side.

22oz bottle from Sam’s. Pours darker hazy golden with decent white head. Lots of Simcoe pine on the nose, with some of the Amarillo fruitiness. Citrus and grapefruit, but also pine spiciness. Big and quite tasty.

Note: I could only pour 1/2 the bottle because of bad sediment. Pale gold color small head with a small amount of carbonation. The looks are nothing to write home about. A citrus floral aroma orange and grapefruit with a pine hop finish. The flavor is intensely hopped proving more than whats on the aroma. Surprising While there is a sweet juicy aroma, the hops dominates any of that noise. Can’t get an opinion of malt. This is like a 90 minute IPA. Thanks to the hops we have a damn dry palate. An interesting and extreme version of a hoppy IPA

12 ounce bottle. Pours hazy golden with a bright white cap. Some floaties from the bottle conditioning. The nose has some plesant orange and pine character. Actually, the malt shines in the nose after it warms a bit. The flavor has a nice toasty malt base with a long earthy bitter finish. Medium body and average carbonation.

Pours a hazy yellow-gold, with a good inch of froathy, bubbley foam. Aromas of malt, pine and citrus hop. Citrus up front with pine and malty finish - Simcoe hop very evident, bitter right after the start, all the way to the end - nice clean finish. I’m not a hop head but I enjoyed this beer

Bitter! Very bitter. Extremely hoppy, piney. Good mouthfeel and balance. Excellent version.

Not impressed by this beer. Aroma was interesting, with sweet fruits and hops. Flavor is bland, watery hop tastes.
