COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

12oz bottle in a tulip. Pours deep golden with a fluffy, thick, off-white head. Aroma strong of piney, bitter hops with hints of caramel malts coming through. A hoppy, bitter IPA that exceeded expectations.

UPDATED: JUL 2, 2011 Old-ish bottle. Hops are dull and there is huge bitterness. Caramel malt backing. Bitter grapefruit. Ok at best. Not big on pine hops myself. Too bitter to be truly enjoyable. Most bitter I’ve had in fact.

Pours hazy dark golden with a light white head and a little lacing. Aroma is of citrus, herbs, spices and flowers. The hops are perfect in this beer. A nice pine and citrus finish. This is the beer that started my obsession with IPA’s!

Pour golden orange off white head good lace. Aroma citrus, pine, grapefruit, caramel, malt sweetness, tangerine. Taste pine, resiny hops, quite bitter, grapefruit, caramel, cereal grain, decently balanced. MF medium body good fine carb. Solid IPA nicely bittered and balanced well done.

12 oz bottle. Pours golden with an off-white head and lots of debris. Floral and citrus aromas. Flavor has more pine and floral flavors, some grapefruit against a biscuit base. Just decent.

Pours burnt orange with a white head. Aroma was florals, caramel and citrus. Taste is a nice mix of caramel sweetness and citrus bitters, it is almost equal and leaves this IPA nicely balances. Sessionable

Pours a lacing, off-white head with a golden body. Flavors and aromas of spicy gps, grapefruit, slightly floral. Finish is slightly dry with a lasting bitterness.

Color little bit better than standard. Great picture on bottle. Fine smell, could be a little more hoppy.
