Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

light hazy gold, medium white head, quite a bit of lace. very airy aroma of malt with perhaps a touch of citrus. flavor is musty malt and a strong, dry hop bitternes, and creamy notes. full bodied, pleasingly bitter hop finish that lingers. surprisingly mouth-filling, nicely bitter.

bottle @ Jungle Jim’s / Eastgate OH --- hazy medium amber color, white head cover, wide bands of lace. Taste is assertive malt and assertive citrus hops, sharing the road 50-50 through a lingering finish. A straightforward brew, but well-balanced, and well-conceived. Excellent.

12 oz bottle from Trader Joe’s Finestkind IPA The IPA poured a hazing light amber to gold color. The head formation was an excellent off white color with good retention and lacing. The aroma has citrus and hints of pine. the medium body ale had average carbonation. The flavor was full of pine nuts and citrus. The finish was clean and bitter in the upper mouth down to the last swallow. Well balanced ale at a good price at Trader Joe’s.

Hazy golden Amber color. Big caramel malt, pine and citrusy nose. Caramel malt backbone, lighter body than expected, pine and citrus. Not overly complex, but quaffable and well balanced.
