Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBUís, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way thatís not easy to find. We think theyíll be quite pleased.

It pours a golden orange/yellow and gives the same color body while leaving some awesome speckled light lacing. The head is about an inch thick and its white. The smell has the hops in front, malts are very subdued. The taste is the same. The mouthfeel is about a light to medium, could have about half the sixpack within a session. Overall, very good American IPA, seek it out if you like this style and grab some barbeque food to go along with it. Great stuff.

Bottled. Pours hazy deep golden with an average off-white head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, apricot, citrus and piney notes. Sweet flavor that ends up dry and nice bitter. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. A very nice IPA. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Bottled at home. Pours a slightly hazy golden with some orange highlights and a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have nice toasted malts, citrus zest, some earthy hops, grass, moderate bitterness, a nice classic ipa.

Draft at Whole Foods Market Ė Chandler. Sweet mango tropical fruit drives the aroma with hints of slight pine, slight molasses, and caramel. Pours deep orange. Taste of orange-laced pastry dough, rather sharp pine resin, grassy alfalfa, and sunflower seed. Decent.

Bottle, as Finestkind IPA. Just hazy golden amber with a large white head. Aroma of mandarins, kumquats, sticky bread crusts. Itís rather sweet but loaded with mandarins and some less sweet citrus flavours that drift gently towards a fairly bitter finish. Some pine and peppery grass toward the end too. Maybe a slightly drier or more bitter finish would have been even better, but itís lovely the way the citrus flavours slide though from sweet to bitter.

Bottle. Slightly hazy tangerine with a fluffy white head. Great aroma: blends weed-like resins, wet grass and sweet tangerine. The flavor loses a lot of the hop character -- bold bitterness is still there, but the clarity of the hops in the nose is not. There is a bit of sweet orange blossom and citrus peel, plus a little grassiness. Medium-bodied; silky carbonation. Very solid, good hop complexity.

Aroma is intense from grapefruits and a fair share of pine. Taste delivers on all accounts, dry mouthfeel, citrusy stings from the hops and a pretty thick backbone of malt. Still itís easy to drink and I canít wait until I get my hands on another one.

Bottle in the North Bar Social, Otley. Pours golden with an off white head. Nice pine hop aroma. The taste is light spice and bitter resinous pine plus some caramel. A little on the thin side, but tasty, light and refreshing.
