Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBUís, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way thatís not easy to find. We think theyíll be quite pleased.

A disappointment from a brewer I enjoy. Shoals is one of my favorite all-time, so had lofty expectations for this one. Looks pretty good - slight orange/amber. Aroma is okay, with some good pine and citrus on top of a slight malt. Flavor starts with a punch of bitter pine/chemical, and fades to a biting dryness in the back of the throat. No malt balance. Iíll revisit this on tap some time to confirm itís not good.

Bottle in Baltimore. Hazy golden pour, thin white head. Aroma is full of citrus, lemon peel, grapefruit, fruity hops, pine and a hint of rye. Flavor is quite bitter, citrussy, quite clean and fruity. Nice and very drinkable IPA.
