Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBUís, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way thatís not easy to find. We think theyíll be quite pleased.

Damn good IPA, a real credit to itís style with big hops and a nice bitterness.

Bottle. Pours a deep gold with a high, large-grained, off-white lacy head. Nose is shaded much more towards orange and tangerine than your average IPA; thereís also a smoky caramel element to it thatís unusual. A little odd on the front of the tongue; saccharine notes moving into some hops bitterness with an underlying chemical or medicinal note. Not much malt to balance it, despite the color. Medicinal note stays present on the finish, which is very dry. Weird beer.

ended up falling a little flat. i am admittedly a west coast fan, but this drank more like a pale ale than any ipa. subtle hops on the nose, and more malt. some fruit and a back end slightly bitter, pretty good pale, somewhat boring ipa. disappointing wish list cross off."

Aroma: spruce, resin, flowers. Appearance: clear gold, small, creamy white head. Taste: medium sweet. Palate: fizzy carbonation, flowers and resin hops intensify, heavy sweets, light to medium bitters following, dry finish. Overall: nice IPA, intense aroma and palate. Pint at Cask Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico.

This is the "finest kind of IPA" or some other name. Make up your mind what to call your beer and fire all those people in the marketing dept. I canít smell it much after the pour because its that kind of beer. If you swirl it youíll get stink like the bottom of a smelly sock but us hop head$ love that stiky icky, donít we?! Floral hop aroma and flavor struggle to survive in this one. You may think its awesome. I think it tastes like the leftover milk from a bowl of fruity pebbles with the addition of a bitter finish dying in all that sweetness.

Love the new dry hop addition, the flavor has improved quite a bit since they move to the new location. Fantasic, East Coast IPA!

Bright citrus notes float up from this copper colored IPA. A nice fluffy head shows in a generous pour. Taste is a crisp bitter citrus goodness, with a little pine and floral mixed in. A very delicious IPA.

Medium yellow with big white head. Aroma is garden vegetables and fruity hop. Light malt, lots I hop bitterness some pine, onions, bitter greens. Like a tasty hop salad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Golden brew with smell and taste of citrus hops and a slight grapefruit that is really good. Beer has a light enough feel that it can be chugged but for the tad bit extra cost than many comparable IPAís donít want to do that. Good brew, little more expensive than others of simular quility but will purchase a case or more next time if itís on sale.

on tap 9/2/14 @ Vagabund Brauerei, Berlin. Pleasant aromas of bitterorange marmelade, with a touch of grass and pineapples, great drinkability, nice mouthfeel with a zesty-bitter finish.

Tap at Hopfenreich, Berlin. Pour is murky gold with a foamy head, aroma is fruity, sweet. Taste is bitter with light fruitiness, a tad watery. Quite nice
