COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

12oz bottle poured into glass. Great smell of hops, some acidic fruit, and a hint of malt. Light copper haze color with a white head that lasts throughout the drink. Bitter at first but finishes very smooth considering the amount of hops that give the pleasant taste to this brew. Overall a great Smuttynose brew, would highly recommend it to any hop head.

This is coming on the heels of spilling half a Peche Mortel, so may be taking it out a little on this rating.

4/20/14. Bottle. Pours a light straw with a cottony white head. Minimal lacing. Wow. I drink a fair amount of hoppy beers and this has one of the strangest hop profiles I've ever tasted. Overly bitter with a faint soapiness. Have to wonder if I got a bad bottle because this doesn't line up well with the other reviews. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

[Bottle] Orange in color with hints of haze. Generous foam head. Bitter nose is of grapefruit, pine and citrus zest. Taste is moderately bitter, with many of the same notes as the aroma. Resinous finish, with moderate amount of biscuit malts. Not an over-the-top IPA, but tasty nevertheless. Tasting notes from 11/2011.

Ugly, opaque gold with heavy sediment (due to unfiltered nature as stated on the label). Not your regular hoppy citrusy IPA. Straw, grass, bitter. Full-bodied finish.

Poured 2 twelve ounce bottles into an imperial pint glass. Great cloudy color capped of with a frothy long standing head. Without getting into grass notes and straw, this IPA seems to be a bench mark for the breed. Use this to calibrate your IPA meter.

12 ounce bottle. Bright amber orange color. Small bubbly white head. Grassy hop bouquet with a nutty malt backdrop. Big bitter hop smack in the face upfront. Seems a bit out of balance. All hops and little malt.

12 oz. bottle, thanks to Ian. Pours a slightly, hazy orange, with a small, bubbly head. The aroma is butterscotch, grapefruit, rye, and honey. Very bitter, sweet, and a little off. Medium body, astringent, and grainy. Overall, this is a bitter, slightly off-putting IPA. Apparently, this is a little old, but it still holds up pretty well.

Pours a classic golden color with a fine off-white head with a little lacing. Not overly aromatic. Faint wisps of bread and hops. This beer is all about the big, bitter finish. There’s a little malt up front, but it gets dank with hint of grapefruit in a hurry. It’s almost more like an imperial or double IPA.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein oranges Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr malzig, hopfig fruchtig, bitter. Geschmack intensiv fruchtig hopfig, stark malzig.

Bottle - Hazy Pale Gold in colour. Very Fruity; tangy bitter grapefruit & lemon-citrus. Very Hoppy; piney resinous oily hops. Malty base; caramelly toffee. Quite bitter very fruity hoppy throughout. Lingering bitter citrus finish. Very drinkable. Nice IPA!
