3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 PapaSkeetSkeet (555) - Corvallis, USA - SEP 29, 2009
UPDATED: MAY 5, 2011 Wow, I am delighted and surprised by the smell of this IPA. It is slightly funky (perhaps like a pale of water that has been left in the cellar for a couple months and smells funny) combined with very citrusy hop aroma (as the description indicates). Its a pleasure, and has character. a bit soapy smelling too. By the way, this pours a cloudy honey with thin mayonnaise colored head. The tasty is nice and refreshing citrusy hops, with a bitter bite at the end that does not overstay its welcome like some IPA’s do. Combine this with a neutral light malt sweetness in both the smell and taste. Overall Impressions: I think the IPA style is finally starting to grow in me. I used to drink it for purely experimental/academic purposes. UPDATE: Finest Kind IPA on tap at Al’s. This is a well-made IPA with a very naked and somewhat harsh bitterness. I haven’t been that impressed with Amarillo in the past, and while this IPA is balanced in a way that I like, it doesn’t speak well for the hop varietal for me.

A hazy, dirty orange pour with a small, white head. It has an earthy hop aroma with some mild grains and citrus. The light body has a crisp, yet smooth texture with lively carbonation. I like the bittersweet flavor followed by a more bitter finish.

Really great beer I happened to stumble on. Has a great hop taste, I wish I would have found this sooner.

Bottle, 12oz, at Mikkeller. It’s almost clear, with a golden-orange color and a dense, off-white head of two-finger size. Some yeast floaties. Pale malts with a weak flowery and grassy touch on the nose. Some pine cones too. The flavor is malty and lightly sweetish, a touch of alcohol kicks in and blends with pine cones, some freshly mown grass, and then there’s of course a balancing bitterness. Dry, smooth and medium bodied, and a lasting finish. A rather ordinary IPA, but well brewed and probably a winner with BBQ. 110528

Draft @ Abraxas. Nice glowing orange. Aroma is of orange, the fruit, and tangerine. Has honey and light toasted cakey malt. The hop is delicately resinous with guava and other astringent fruit. Love this new gen. IPA, moving away from predictable C-hop. Unique personality, yum.

A likeable IPA. The appearance is closer to a Pilsner than an ale. But the palate is well balanced and has a nice hoppy after taste.

From bottle to tulip. This one has a really bitter hoppy flavor. I like this one.

Pours a light, cloudy orange with foamy white head and nice lacing. Nose is strong citrusy hop, clean and straight forward. Big and bitter. Enough malt for some balance but this is a nice hoppy beer. Long lasting bitter finish. Hop heads should like.
