22oz capped, thanks Alex. Clear amber brown with eggshell white head. Malty, apple, caramel, fig newtons, lighty boozey and some phenols. Bready tart apples and raisins, white grapes, creamy smooth body with some tobacco notes on the end. Well made and enjoyable until it warms when the booze pops out.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2012 The aroma of some sweet malts and bourbon vanilla, smooth. The beer pours amber with a beige head. It tastes like smooth bourbon from the barrels with a smooth bite on the tail end. The body is syrupy light with some alcohol fumes as well, but not overbearing.

Amber pour with creamy white head and lace. Light sour cherry aroma with a hint of malt. Sweet malt, cherry, with a light sour finish. Medium bodied and fizzy.

Pours a medium brown with a slightly reddened tint. Off white head. Smell is very nice and quite strong. Rye whiskey is really apparent in the nose, almost completely dominating. A bit balanced out by some sweet caramel. Taste is quite similar although not as well integrated. Body is the one drawback, as it is a bit thin and undercarbonated. One of my favorte Smuttynose beers to date. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 09-25-2010

Bottle. Pours a bruin body with an off white head, good retention. Bourbon and boozy sweet malty etoh. Spices are very mild here, with bourbon domineering the brew.

A: The pour is a dark amber color with about a finger’s worth of khaki colored head. S: Lots of barrel influence is detectable right off the bat. Vanilla, oak, and bourbon really dominate that aromas. I get some rye as well as a subtle fruitiness behind all the barrel. T: More bourbon and vanilla to the flavor with a mild warmth to the beer. A lot of rye and what seems to be candied orange peels along with caramel and brown sugar. M: Medium in body with a surprisingly lively carbonation, but I appreciate it. D: This beer was good, but it’s completely overwhelmed by the barrel/bourbon. I was left to wonder what the original beer really tasted like.

22 oz bottle shared this with liveFREEorRYE on 10/ 23/ 2010. I’m really glad I made the stop at Julio’s in Westboro, MA. Aroma is a woody bourbon barrel smell. A ton of head that just wont go away, with ridiculous lacing, literally just covers the glass. A butter popcorn fragrance. Up front is a bourbon wood taste(possibly oak wood) a raisin flavor in the center. The finish tastes exactly like movie theater butter popcorn. Has a nice creamy mouth feel that is not too thick yet very rich. A truly unique beer that should be sipped and enjoyed SLOWLY. We let this sit about 20 minutes as it warms the bourbon barrel boozy taste comes through and gets stronger. A complex beer that I could rate 10 times and get different flavors every time I drink it. A very good beer to hold and cherish. Put one in your cellar! I’m going to get a few more bottles and let them age.

22oz from wavers1 - thanks, Baker! The pour is a deep dank dark orange to amber, with a slightly too still body. Huge bourbon nose, even overpowering. The mouthfeel is a bit slick, enhanced by the sweetness of the malt profile and the booziness. But the barrel has more complexity in the taste than in the nose, yielding a beer that’s kinda wheatwine-ish.
