2010 pre-Brewer’s Jam tasting. Pours red-orange with beige head. Aroma is very sweet with some hints of char and honey, maybe some sage. Flavor is also very sweet with maple and caramel, little bit of spice, distant vegetal hint. I can detect some spice in the finish and aftertaste. Ok, but too sweet.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 piscator34 (1799) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - OCT 12, 2010
Bottled sample via and shared with oakbluff. Ruby in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of orchard fruit, bourbon barrel, dark caramel, and booze. Heavy on the booze and barrel in the mouth, but with some nice spicy rye and caramel notes coming through in the background. Somewhat of a slick mouthfeel. Seems way boozier and heavier than it actually is. Some good elements here, but a bit too out of balance to really come together.

Bottle, huge thanks to Skyview. Hazy reddish brown pour, with thin, dissipating white head. Aroma has big bourbon, whiskey, rye and a touch of booze. Taste up front is sweet bourbon and vanilla, leading into the rye whiskey and spice, with a slightly sweet and boozy finish. Very complex and good beer.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hopscotch (8217) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - OCT 7, 2010
Bottle… Clear, dark ruby ale with a small, fizzy, lightly tanned head. Decent retention. The aroma furnishes a boatload of caramelized brown sugar alongside lesser notes of bourbon, oak, rye whiskey and spicy grains. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and tingly carbonation. The sweet flavor offers caramel and rye whiskey tempered by modest bitterness. Rich, buttery toffee finish. Thanks to growler for sharing this whiskey-loaded, malty beer!

(22oz bottle thanks to Exiled) rich orange-brown with lasting film of tan bubbles. Nose of rye, brown sugar, mild bourbon. Taste of bourbon, rye, brown sugar, alcohol, mild oxidation, creamy body and warming alcohol.

Deep amber pour and a thin white head. The nose is peppery and a bit sharp. A bit of unusual woody character. The palate has a whole lot of rye character. A touch of peppery flavour and a spicy sweetness. Lingering chewy palate and a long earthy/spicy finish. Decent but it doesn’t really come together like it could.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 MeadMe (1090) - Riverview, Florida, USA - OCT 1, 2010
A: Pours a nice rich brown with mild amber tones. Very tall off white almost tan head. Insane retention and nice chunky lace.
S: Lots and lots of barrel goodness. Oak, vanilla and coconut rule here. More subtle notes of candy malts as well.
T: Really nice brew. Malt sweetness in a big way. Loads of toffee and caramel. The barrel really stands out. Vanilla first with fresh cut oak second. Mild coconut notes and nice bourbon notes. Subtle hints of spicy rye with a hint of chocolate.
M: On the fuller side of medium, nice carbonation, a real smooth drinking brew.

22 oz bottle. Hazy brown with a foamy beige head. Nose is candi, rye and bourbon. Medium body with a buzz. Taste is grape, caramel and yeast finishing dry with bourbon and bitter rye. Quite lively for a barrel aged beer.
