Red brown color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla, rye malt, caramel malts, nuts, and alcohol. Taste of nuts, rye, burnt malts, vanilla, and bourbony alcohol in the finish.

65cl, no mention of ABV, as Ry(e)an Ale, new exclusive American brew Anno 2010, thx to Secret Santa!, complex brew, sweet/spicy and slightly alcoholic/woody, heavy, yet balanced, cloudy, small head, good brew, yet expensive!

Received a 22-oz bottle via trade with Sully. Pours a hazy caramel amber colored brew with a decent beige head that quickly dissipates to a thin ring and some spotty lacing. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, roasted dark malt and even some Irish rye whiskey. Taste quite complex with profiles of rye and bourbon whiskey, toffee, vanilla and even some sweet apple. Finish is semi-sweet, bourbon presence, yet quite smooth in texture and then flavor. Alcohol is well hidden in the special release.

Bottle brought to Vinny’s January 2013 tasting. Pours a deep hazy reddish amber body with no head or lacing. Aroma is sweet molasses, bourbon, maple syrup and faint dark fruits. Mouthfeel is slightly boozy, with ntoes of maple, fruit malts, molasses, light vanilla, rye, and oak barrel. This beer reminded me very much of founder Backwoods bastard and Better Half. Nice.

Pours a medium brown with a slightly reddened tint. Off white head. Smell is very nice and quite strong. Rye whiskey is really apparent in the nose, almost completely dominating. A bit balanced out by some sweet caramel. Taste is quite similar although not as well integrated. Body is the one drawback, as it is a bit thin and undercarbonated. One of my favorte Smuttynose beers to date. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 09-25-2010

22oz. Bottle: Sweet aroma of bourbon, oak, vanilla, light whiskey, caramel, and slight rye. Poured copper/dark amber/deep ruby/brown in color with a large, creamy, dense, tan/beige head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of tiny, and a few medium-sized particles throughout. Excellent lacing. Flavor is medium to heavily sweet. Tastes of Bourbon, vanilla, slight oak, light whiskey, light caramel, and a hint of alcohol. Medium to full body. Viscous, slick, then slightly sticky and slightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Medium sweet, Bourbon, Whiskey, vanilla, finish is slightly dry.

Nice brew - god mix of rye flavors, mixed with caramel and molasses - in fact it may drift a little towards being too sweet. Some boozy notes as it warms. Enjoyable beer. Sampled at 2010 pre-Brewer’s Jam tasting.

22 oz bottle. Pours a dark amber body with a small wispy beige head. Nice earthy and spicy rye nose with some complementary hops over a slightly sweet caramel and bourbon base. The flavor is very spicy with a hefty bourbon laced finish bringing on some vanilla and alcohol. I don’t especially dig the barrel character of this one, seems to be a bit overdone. Mouthfeel is fizzy and lively, helping cut the heavy body a little bit. Not bad, but a touch too boozy and alcoholic.

Amber pour with creamy white head and lace. Light sour cherry aroma with a hint of malt. Sweet malt, cherry, with a light sour finish. Medium bodied and fizzy.

Pours a deep amber/orange with a medium off white head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, dark fruits, rye and oak. Flavor was a mix of the same with the bourbon certainly there but not overpowering. Well done bourbon aged beer.
