22oz bottle, courtesy of MikeTD (Thanks), if you like bourbon, drink on. huge amounts of vanilla and bourbon come through at all times, a bit sweet, a bit spicy and a good mix, but the bourbon dominates at all times. Still enjoyable and nice to have a bourbon barrel under 10%

Sample thanks to Skyview. Hazy dark brown pour, no carbonation and a funky subtle apple and booze aroma. Flavor is plenty of bourbon, herbs and finished syrupy and boozy. Very good beer, but just not too much complexity to make it really interesting.

2010 pre-Brewer’s Jam tasting. Pours red-orange with beige head. Aroma is very sweet with some hints of char and honey, maybe some sage. Flavor is also very sweet with maple and caramel, little bit of spice, distant vegetal hint. I can detect some spice in the finish and aftertaste. Ok, but too sweet.

Bottle. Beautiful deep red pour, with a thin veil of off white foam. Lots of bourbon-vanilla present in the aroma, obviously marries well with whatever rye malt notes manage to make it through. Taste is sweet, candy, vanilla, bourbon. Palate is slightly syrupy, lacks carbonation for such a sweet beer. Not bad, but I would never have drank the whole thing - too bourbony and unidimensional.

Pours clear dark amber into a snifter. White head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Sweet rye and bourbon aromas. Thin with sour toffee upfront turning to a mild bourbon before the hot lasting rye burn.

Pours a dark ruby red. A little cloudy, but it is a rye beer after all. Good luck filtering those bright. Small light tan head that stays throughout the entire session. Smells of bourbon. Maybe a hint of vanilla and a slight woodiness. Something sweet in there as well. Bourbon. Right up front and in the back of every sip. Slight sweetness. No rye whatsoever. A little bit sour from the wood I suppose. A little hops, but barely there. Coats the mouth with a bourbon taste that sticks with you the whole time you are drinking this. Bit of residual sweetness left on the lips making them sticky. Like maybe I smeared a lollipop all over my mouth. Surprisingly drinkable in spite of the bourbon taste. The taste is all that is there though. So unlike other beers that age in bourbon barrels that crank up their ABV for some reason, making it undrinkable, this one is on the other spectrum; very drinkable. Although I might limit myself to a couple in a given night. Excellent beer that should be available at more places.
