COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
David Yarrington, from America’s Smuttynose Brewery, has travelled to Wadworth Brewery, in Wiltshire, to brew this beer especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival, taking its name from the way in which George W Bush pronounces ‘American’. This is a light mild, blending elements of Belgian, British and German brewing cultures, giving a malt profile which balances the sweet and bitter orange peel and citrus aromas, from the German hops – all superbly melded together by the British yeast used.

Cask. JDW fest. Light golden body with a small white head. Sweet, fruity nose, sugar and orchard fruits. The taste is grapefruit hoppiness, redcurrant, orange, ballasted by light malts. Quite sweet and tangy. Light/medium body, subtle carbonation. Overall, a decent pint.

Cask at Wetherspoons ’Moon and Sixpence’, Hatch End. An amber/golden coloured pour with a small white head on top. Vague sweet, perfumey aroma. Tastes sweet, orangey, malty, very thin and watery. No complexity whatsoever. Really disappointing to be honest, Smuttynose should stick to brewing their top notch beers in the US rather than Wiltshire.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Amber with a loose cream head; aroma of orangey citrus with a touch of cloves; sweet citrus flavour to start then a sour grainy body with some grassy hops. Mild ... but not as we know it.

Cask - The Bell Hotel (JDW), Norwich. Poured with a fine though lasting soapy, lacy white head on a clear golden yellow body. Somewhat muddled orange aromas with backing yeast & sulphurous touches. Slightly tangy mid fruit flavour profile with nutty malts & I’m with Ian on the ginger biscuit character. Some boiled orange sweet in there too. Emptyish mid palate lets it down. Light to medium body, soft mouthfeel finishing with a short & soft bitterness.

Hand pulled at William Shenstone, Halesowen. Gold. Smells sweet - perhaps maple. A pretty tasty light bitter (or golden Mild if you please). Very sweet, but well balanced, with a pleasing sweet finish.

On cask at the Alexander Graham Bell and the Standing Order for the Wetherspoons beer festival. Pours a golden colour with a decent white head. Aroma of toffee, prunes, alcohol and caramel. Similar flavours with lingering fruity notes. Mild carbonation, an oily mouth-feel and a dry finish. Not bad.
