Bottle shared in the GTMW ticket line - Pours black with a thin tan pour. Nose is ashy dry malt. The hops arenít that pungent--a little herbal and grassy. Taste is dry, ashy malt, a bit of burned wood, and a bitter, roasty finish. Thin and watery, both in body and taste.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2013-04-29. Mahogany tinged black body, nice creamy tan head. Aroma is mild, light dusty malt with mild leafy green hop character. Flavour is pleasant, modest dry malt, light leafy green hops. Earthy leafy hops linger in the finish. Very smooth average bodied palate, pleasant soft carbonation. Enjoyable, surprisingly mild for a black IPA but quite drinkable. On tap at Farmhouse, Burlington

Smells very dark and roasty. Coffee and chocolate smells, slightly hoppy. Taste is bitter both from the hops and the roasted malts. Pretty balanced though, very roasty flavors. Really good black IPA.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from the great Samís Quik Shop in Durham. Pours a dark brown, nearly black with a soft light tan head and good lacing. Nose is more roasty malt than hops, though some light pine and orange peel notes make their way through. Taste adds hop bitterness, but this is definitely more of a malt-forward black IPA than some, for the better.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a deep rich black color with a two finger khaki foam. Big roasty nose with touches of earthy forest floor and bright grassy pine hops. The palate follows the nose nicely with great mouthfeel and spot on flavors. Great black IPA !
